University of Missouri
This is where I went to school...sometimes. Sometimes I wish I would have gone further from home and discovered some new great thing. Then I remember how much fun I had and how many awesome friends I made and how happy I am with everything. Then I don't wish that any more.
Booches
Coming from a self professed foodie who doesn't think blowing $500 on a meal is a big deal, one of the most unbelievable things I've ever put in my mouth is a Booches burger. They're little slider types and I've had them for breakfast lunch and dinner. Booches is a truly amazing little gem of a place. Closed on Sundays and as their front door says facetiously,"Close Sunday, See You in Church."
And when we play the "pros and and cons if we moved ...." Booches is always high up on the Columbia list.
The Blue Note
This is the ideal of cool music club. So interwoven into the fabric of Columbia. I really believe without the Blue Note my enthusiasm for Columbia would be reduced by 35-40%. And I love lots of things about Columbia. This place is amazing and has gotten so many good acts over the years. I've seen Wilco here thrice.
The Big Tree
This is a little gem that lots of people don't know about. Its basically just a big tree in the middle of a field in Mcbaine MO which is a nice 10-15 minute road trip. One night we went out here to watch a meteor storm and listen to pink floyd. Been here many times and I miss it : (
Les Bourgeios
Winery on the Missouri River. Sits on a bluff. Many great Friday afternoons here in college. There was always that first really nice day when you just knew that tons of people would be at the winery. Everyone got dressed up just a tad bit nicer than usual. Very sloppy nights in Columbia after a winery day.
Football Saturdays
The Tigers have had a lot more bad years than good but there have been signs of light in the last few years. Nevertheless, football games are always fun and have great turn outs. Tailgating, getting your hopes up, seeing old friends, golden girls. Lots to like. This is the year!!!
Downtown
Jut feels like a downtown that gives a crap. Lots of cool little bars and restaurants without much chain stuff at all.
Trattoria Strada Nova
Haven't been in a few years but Trattoria and Cherry St. Wine Cellar (closed) is where I learned a lot about food and wine. So many great meals here. Loved the exposed brick walls, changing menu, open kitchen, bar. A very cool restaurant for a small town. Would still fit right in in much bigger cities like SF. And I remember drinking two bottles of 94 Bryant Family one night. Thanks Ron!!!
Deck at Willie's
You can watch sports, listen to music, watch people walk down the street, eat and drink while outside. What else do you need?
Murray's
Cool in its simplicity. Jazz on weekends with long waits. But I say its still worth it.
