Police in Las Vegas, Nevada, are investigating the discovery of what they said is the deadly poison ricin in a hotel room. The substance is "100 percent ricin," said Capt. Joe Lombardo. "We don't know who [the ricin] belongs to or why it would be here at this time."

'Chemical Ali' execution approved
Iraq's president and two vice presidents approved the execution of Ali Hassan al-Majeed, who earned the nickname "Chemical Ali" for his role in a chemical weapons attack on Iraqi Kurds, a member of the Iraqi parliament said. A court has convicted al-Majeed -- a cousin of Saddam Hussein -- for his role in attacks that killed tens of thousands in the 1980s.
Residents detain 'Pumpkin's' fugitive father
An international fugitive accused of killing his wife in New Zealand, stuffing her body into the trunk of a car and then abandoning the couple's 3-year-old daughter at a train station has been captured in the U.S., authorities said. The child of the newspaper publisher and self-proclaimed martial arts master became known internationally as "Pumpkin."
U.S. Navy ships move closer to Lebanon
The U.S. Navy has moved the guided-missile destroyer USS Cole and other ships to the eastern Mediterranean Sea off Lebanon, Pentagon officials said. The deployment comes amid a political standoff over Lebanon's presidency, but the Navy would not say whether the events are linked.
