3/26/96 University of Missouri, Columbia, Jessie Auditorium
First show.
4/18/98 Athens, GA Washington St.
Free show with in Athens for the release of the "Light Fuse, Get Away" CD. Drove down from Columbia, MO with Rozalyn, Ryan Shanholtzer, and some other people that will surely come to me in a moment. Really awesome time. Except then we got in the car and drove all the way back home. Needless to say this was one long ass trip. 12 hours down, party down, 12 hours back. Ahh to be young again.
10/24/98 St Louis, MO American Theater
Drove with a crew from Columbia. Full on Panic in a super small venue. Front row almost dead center.
6/25/99 Morrison, CO Red Rocks
First Red Rocks show. Totally amazed by the place first of all. Still probably the coolest concert venue I've ever been to. Dirty Dozen opened and played some tunes with the boys. Sick.
6/26/99 Morrison, CO Red Rocks
Round #2 of the first trip to Red Rocks. At this point I make up my mind to make this a yearly excursion. Full day of hanging in parking lot, sunshine, mountains, cold beer. Yee haw.
4/21/00 St. Louis, MO Fox Theater
Sat way up in the balcony for this one. Remember seeing Eric Miller on the way in the show. Cream Puff War closer sticks out in my mind. Kind of a weird place to see a Panic show. Its so nice but the crowd was getting kind of rowdy and it just doesn't seem like the king of place where there should be a lot of smoke. Schools wore a Blues jersey
6/23/00 Morrison, CO Red Rocks
Maybe my favorite of all the Panic shows I have seen.
6/24/00 Morrison, CO Red Rocks
Kick ass turntable cameo from Colin Butler of Bigg Ass Truck during Arleen. The "Alice in Wonderland" thing he pulled out was way out there and perfectly timed.
6/22/01 Morrison, CO, Red Rocks
First set was the completely from the "Ain't Life Grand" CD. Ain't it? Never seen something like this before. Cody Dickenson tore it up with an electric washboard rip during the drum solo. Mind bending stuff and only night one.
6/23/01 Morrison CO, Red Rocks
No sugar tonight in my coffee
No sugar tonight in my tea
No sugar to stand beside me
No sugar to run with me
na na na na na na na na
6/24/01 Morrison CO, Red Rocks
Sunday afternoon shows at Red Rocks are the shiznit. The only exception being when your worn thin from Friday and Saturday and you've got a 12 hour drive back to Missouri (and work) staring you in the eye. And yes I made it to work Monday morning. Had a great time at the show though. Its not until about midnight, half way through Kansas that you really start to have bad time.
5/4/01 New Orleans, LA Municipal Auditorium
The night after we saw them at Jazz Fest. Awesome party. Was there with Rozalyn, Kasey, Gallagher, Miguel Bauer, and Michelle. The whole weekend was a rip roaring time. Can't wait to do Jazz Fest again sometime. The wild Magnolias opened and were fantastic. All these dudes in crazy costumes dancing through the crowd. A real bonarroo!
4/15/03 Boston, MA Orpheum Theater
Kelly's first panic show. I believe I was conveniently visiting Boston from Paris when they were in town. Nice venue with very restrictive rules. Couldn't drink a beer at our seats. It was a good show but Panic in kind of a weird place I think. First time I saw they without Mikey.
4/16/03 Boston, MA Orpheum Theater
Went with some of Kelly's friends to their first Panic show. First set acoustic was sweet. I always like the song Ophelia which they payed in the first set. Weird times seeing Panic without Mikey.
7/14/00 Kansas City, MO City Market
Pretty cool outdoor show. I don't remember a lot about this show. Remember it taking a long time to get in but we could hear She Caught the Katy while in line. I think we ended up partying down with Sonnenberg and Weaver. I'll have to look that one up...
6/30/01 Little Rock, AR Riverfest Amphitheatre
First show of a six show run with Eric Miller. Sat in the this cool bar along the river that was playing panic all afternoon before the show. I remember watching some baseball. In fact JB was watching the Braves and drinking wine. I think I invited him to a Brewers/Cardinals game in Milwaukee. JB literally stumbled out of the place and four hours later just throttled the first set. Good times all around. Loved the Pusherman>Chunk of Coal finish. They also played about 50 seconds on the song "Rock" Get it? A little rock.
7/1/01 Tulsa, OK Brady Theater
Fantastic little place to see Panic. Has to be one of the smallest, most intimate shows year after year. This was night two of our journey and we were already feeling a little rough around the edges. Absolutely phenomenal show. Bear's Gone Fishing and Ain't No Use were big highlights. Drove back to Springfield that night and arrived at about 4AM. Slept on Swiss Daddy's couch. Took off for Milwaukee the next morning. For some reason I still remember that I ate a Sonic breakfast sandwich that morning and washed it down with a SOBE adrenaline rush energy drink. The mind remembers the craziest things.
7/3/01 Milwaukee, WI Summerfest Marcus Amphitheatre
First time I had ever been to Milwaukee. Surprisingly a pretty cool place. The concert was part of Summerfest which is like a big fair with concerts every night. hanging out before the show we got to talk with Dave Schools and snapped a great picture. I was totally starstruck. One of my most treasured pics. Ben Harper opened that night. Didn't love the venue but the show was great.
7/4/01 Geneva, MN Harmony Park Music Garden
Fourth of July. Totally different venue/scene than any other show I've ever been to. This place is literally in the middle of nowhere. You drive dirt roads through fields to get there. No town within 15-20 miles. Most people camp right at Harmony Park which is next to one of the 10,000 lakes in MN. The venue is basically an area that is blocked off by orange plastic fencing. Just a field with a stage. Panic was great. Small crowd. Watched fire throwing/juggling/breathing, sword swallowing gypsys afterwards. Slept in the car afterwards.
7/6/01 Bonner Springs, KS Sandstone
Nearing the homestretch of our mini summer run, we found our 6th wind. Had great seats. JB joined String Cheese Incident for a cool version of Superstition. It was a double bill of String Cheese and Panic so we just got one set of each. Went to bed early in anticipation of a throwdown in STL the next night.
7/7/01 St. Louis, MO Riverport Amphitheatre
hate this venue but we met a bunch of friends there including Gallagher, Ladd, Douglas, Bratcher, and Junior. Pretty good show. The Ain't No Use with String Cheese sticks out in my mind.
4/27/02 Pellham, AL Oak Mountain Amphitheatre
4/28/02 Pellham, AL Oak Mountain Amphitheatre
10/22/99 Columbia, MO Hearnes Center
Sick as a dog. Don't remember much
8/1/01 New York, NY Central Park Summerstage, Rumsey Playfield
Only panic show I've ever been to by myself. I was pretty much in the front row. Jerry Joseph joined for few and was on fire. NORTH was epic.
05/01/05 Tulsa, OK Brady Theater
Went with Fev, Stu, Sam Butler. George sounded pretty good. Great show. Stood on the floor Schools side.
7/07/06 Berkeley, CA The Greek Theater
First show with the SF crew.
7/08/06 Berkeley, CA The Greek Theater
Great party at Tim's house before the show. Huge group at the Greek. First encore was Sittin' On the Dock of the Bay. So perfect for WSP,"Left my home in Georgia, headed for the Frisco bay..."
4/27/07 Pellham, AL Oak Mountain Amphitheatre
These shows had kind of a weird but powerful vibe going. It hadn't been announced yet but there were definitely people who knew about Mikey being sick. I saw a number of people crying at various points in the show, some "we love you Mikey" signs. I actually decided to go last minute just to see Mikey one more time. JB did a little Amazing Grace rap during Help Me Somebody. In spite or because of this these shows rocked. The band seemed to really cherish playing together and the emotion of the band was just different. Read the review in the spreadnet link above. Pretty much sums it up. Closed with Don't Be Denied by Neil Young. I remember it being almost like JB was singing it to Mikey.
Pretty soon I met a friend,
Who played guitar
We'd set on the steps at school,
And dream of being stars
We started a band,
We played all night
Don't be denied
Don't be denied
Don't be denied
Don't be denied
Don't be denied
Oh, friend of mine
Don't be denied
4/28/07 Pellham, AL Oak Mountain Amphitheatre
another fantastic and emotionally charged show. Jerry Joseph played a hellacious version of North and Cortez the Killer. Ended the show with Ain't Life Grand and then laid down a really emotional Trouble (Cat Stevens) to open the encore.
Trouble
Oh, trouble set me free
I have seen your face
And it's too much, too much for me
