Well-Developed Strategy
It certainly had to throw off Dick's game when he sat with Dustin and Jessica and heard that they had their enemies playing the game with them, and he saw his daughter Daniele on the spy screen. Despite the fact they hadn't spoken in two years, he immediately went to her and worked out an agreement to make it to final two together. He never strayed from this at all. He played the game the whole time with the intention of going to final 2 with his daughter, no matter how many times she got mad at him in the house. He talked of watching Dr. Will in the house and observing how he played the game. When you compare the two, it's interesting, as they both set out to annoy people, and for some reason, it kept them safe instead of getting them kicked off. While it may not seem like pouring iced tea over Jen's head and banging pots and pans in Dustin's ear were great strategy, they were. They took the pressure off Daniele and put it on Dick, and it definitely got into the heads of the others.
He Had the Most to Lose
Dick's right, although Daniele doesn't like the fact that he's right. He had the most to lose in the house and had it tougher than anyone else. While she whined and went on about having to play the game for both of them, as she was always attached to his anger, he did it to take the heat off her, yet she never acknowledged it. And on top of that, he wanted nothing more, and made it abundantly clear throughout the season, that what he desired most was to be back in Daniele's life. She didn't care walking into the house whether she saw him again or not.
He Created Relationships With the Jury
The people that matter are the jury, and they all, at one time or another, had a relationship in good standing with Dick. He made sure of it. Obviously, he didn't have anything positive with Jen, but she was a voting minority. He sat up every night telling all those stories, whether people were getting irritated at him being a name-dropper or not, getting to know these people. He knew what made each of them tick, and was the only one that came close to figuring out what Eric's role on the show was. Dick knew that Erie's behavior was set-ups. He didn't know why, but knew it had something to do with his visits to the DR. He acted accordingly, knowing that Eric was a guy to keep in his back pocket, but also knowing he couldn't keep him until the bitter end.
He Controlled the Game
No matter what Dustin wants to think, he wasn't the one controlling the game, and neither was Daniele or Zach. There were two people that controlled the moves of the house, Eric and Dick, and Eric was acting on our behalf. The people that were nominated throughout the game were because it was Dick's decision or Eric's. After the Kail/Jen HoHes, it was always someone from the LNC that was the HoH, and they were controlled by Eric and Dick. It wasn't until Zach won his first HoH that Eric and Dick didn't have pull, and by that time Eric was gone, and Zach knew his only choice at final 2 was getting rid of Dick or Daniele.
He Took the Heat Off Daniele
When Daniele was in the hot seat, and her dad knew it, he put the heat on himself, then seemed to always keep himself safe after that. The whole pots and pans incident, banging them in Dustin's ear to wake him up and going off on him, calling him Princess, was to take the heat off Daniele, as he knew if she didn't win PoV, she was gone. He went further with it attacking Jameka, Amber, and Eric as well. These were all the people he was worried about winning PoV. He tried to take them off their game. It worked so well, that it ended up being him that won PoV, and that was the week he took Daniele off the block. They all hated him that week, but he did what he had to do to save Daniele, then worked with Eric to get Dustin on the block which saved him as well. If he or Daniele wouldn't have won, she would have gone home that week.
He's a Longtime Viewer of Big Brother
There's always people on reality shows that say they don't like reality shows and have never watched the particular one they're a contestant on. There were several people this year who said they'd never watched the show. A few, Jen and Kail, said they'd never once watched the show, but it turned out Kail was a finalist in other seasons, and Jen knew all about the show. Most likely, both had watched. In addition, last year's winner Boogie revealed he and partner Dr. Will had been coaching Jen. Other people, such as Zach, had never watched the show, and were recruited to play. Dick had been a longtime viewer of the show, and had tried for several years to get on, just like Kail, and he admitted it. He knew the game well.
He's Personable
No matter how you look at it, he was a stunning personality. He was big, and this is why you either hated or loved him. He couldn't be ignored, as he had such an ultra personality. His antics will be talked about for years to come, just like Dr. Will's, another big personality. Every houseguest gravitated toward spending time with him, because he was fascinating to be around with his stories, opinions, etc.
He Loved His Daughter Above All Else
But the best part of his personality is that he really is a decent guy when it comes down to it. He loves his family and would do anything for them, and proved that this summer. He loved this show and dreamed of being part of it for quite awhile, but once his daughter joined him on the show, he would have still let her stay while he left, all out of his love for her. When they were fighting in the house, and she was ignoring him, he'd be up late by himself bemoaning this and crying. His win was twofold, and he has known that all week. He won his daughter back into his life, and the money became secondary to him.
