Youins, usins, weins, etc.
I have finally capitulated in a few instances on ain't. However, the above three are way out of the ballpark on what I perceive and decent grammar.
I seen it at...
You did not seen it; you saw it. And when I call you on it, don't say, "I said I have seen it" because you didn't!!!
Hey, you did that real good
NO, NOT GOOD!! He did it well.
I done this, that or the other thing
I done it??? I think you did it. Say, I did it.
Joe and me went to...
The rule is, say it as if it was standing alone. You wouldn't say me went to... would you, no you would say I went to. Thus, it should be Joe and I went to...
And did you get permission before you went?
Answering phone, "This is her"
Ackkk!! This is she!! I don't know the rule on this one, but I know that she is correct.
Went vs came
We came to WalMart yesterday. Um, I think you went to Walmart AND you should have gone to Target it is better.
Bein as I am going to
Bein?? What the hell is bein? The geezer picked this one up for a while from one of his co-workers. We addressed it calmly a few times as mature adults do and, let's just say, this college graduate is once again using the word since, instead of "bein".
How come and why
This isn't really a grammar issue, just a personal preference. I think why sounds so much better than how come. I can't say why, it just does.
Can and May
This may be getting a little picky; but I'm on a roll. The whole can I vs. may I issue. Ring, ring; "can I talk to _____?" I always want to say, "I don't know, are you able to?" But, because I try to be nice I say, "Yes, you may."
Add your own
There are so many more, not only in the Ozarks where I live, but each region has it's own vernacular distinctive to the area. Please keep adding to this and I will add more as I think of them.
Updated 9/08/07: He comed with us to WalMart
Heard earlier today; thank goodness it was a stranger, not someone I know.
Arrgg! How do you even spell comed (as in come past tense)? Comed, commed?
How on earth can anyone not know that the past tense of come is came? Arrgggg!
