Introduction
up until two months ago, i had never seen one - not one - episode of the sopranos. we ordered it on netflix from season one, episode one. we're up to season two, episode five. some observations of why, so far, i love this show.
the accent
"tree" - three. "tinks" - thinks. "mudda" - mother. "brudda" - brother. "bodderin" - bothering. "troots" - truths. "do dis" - do this. "shugga" - sugar. "den" - then. "letta" - letter.
it's so great.
it's so great.
tony soprano
he's a larger than life man and personality with such childlike qualities. which leads me to...
character complexity
the character development is phenomenal. they do an amazing job of exposing complexities and insecurities without smacking you in the face.
body language
the hand thing. the shaking of the hand with the fingers grouped together. the pursed lips. the intensity.
contradiction
murder, drugs, sex...and they're all devout catholics.
clothes
big silk short-sleeved shirts, patterned sweaters, pleated pants, wind suits. fantastic wardrobe.
male egos
this show makes men look like animals. i think it's kind of funny.
carmela's bangs
i'm only on season two, so i'm sure they won't last much longer, but i love how perfect and precise carmela's bangs are.
dialog
the dialog is very fragile, smart and subtle.
decor
fake columns, marble, gold plated everything, fake plants, gaudy chandeliers. straight up jersey.
violence
i know when to look away.
nate and i were just thinking about renting all of the sopranos dvd's since we dont have cable. i so badly want to watch this phenomenon and have the instant gratification. we just need to get a dvd player first and then we'll get on board and talk.

I'm thinking about joining NetFlix just for the Sopranos and Dead Wood.
