I know the Enterprise was a great ship, but the Excelsior a meaner and faster.
Oh yeah? Well if it was hot why did the Enterprise kick it's ass when Kirk and the guys stole the enterprise to go get Spock?
First of all, Scotty sabotaged the transwarp engines from Excelsiors engineering, even though he admired the new ship AND was the Excelsiors new Chief of Engineering.
If not for that, the Enterprise would have lost it's speed record and been recaptured when Kirk and the boys (and girl) stole the Enterprise. The Excelsior was also equipped with better weapons systems than the Enterprise.
Also, the Excelsiors Captain was Captain Styles... and he was a pompous douche. Not that that ultimately matters. No engines = no action.
This is like comparing a F-4 Phantom to a F-18 Hornet.
