Characters I Miss From ER

Introduction

I've been a fan of ER since the very first season thirteen years ago. Many different regular and starring roles have come and gone in that time, and there's some that I just feel I miss terribly every time I watch the show. There is no longer anyone on the show that was there from the beginning, except possibly some of the minor nursing roles. While I really enjoy the addition of John Stamos as Dr. Tony Gates, and Maura Tierney as Abby and Mekhi Phifer as Dr. Pratt are always great, I still miss many of the others every week.

1

Anthony Edwards as Dr. Mark Greene

One of the original cast members, the County General emergency room just doesn't function the same without him. He seemed to always know the right thing to do or say, and when he didn't, he fixed it or made amends. I didn't save his last episode on tape, but I wish I had. I can still see him driving down the road singing with his daughter, and later being so ill he couldn't get out of bed. When the rest of the staff at the hospital found out about his passing, it was so realistic.

2

Paul McCrane as Dr. Robert Romano

I loved it every time this guy was onscreen. He always had a smart aleck comment for every situation, and these were always so terrible you didn't want to laugh, but you just had to, especially his jokes about Dr. Weaver. If there's another thing he's remembered for, it's the helicopter incident that severed his arm. No one saw it coming, and the fact that it was another helicopter that eventually killed him? Classic.

Laura Innes as Dr. Kerry Weaver

Whether you were a fan of the show or one of the doctors and nurses she managed, you loathed her, yet also had a fondness for her somewhere deep in your heart. And the older she got, the more kinder she got. Perhaps it was when she came out, as that seemed to lighten some of her load, or perhaps it was when she had the surgery to correct whatever it was that was wrong with her leg all those years, but she eventually became part of the family for everyone. The halls at County General just aren't the same without her limping down them.

4

Noah Wyle as Dr. John Carter

Originally, ER was built around Dr. Carter's character, as he was in his first year as an intern, and we watched him struggle all the way, not getting support from his superior, Dr. Benton, planning on leaving County General, staying, and repeating that several more times every time there was a bump in his career. We even saw him get shot and end up with substance abuse trying to deal with it all. It seemed like we watched him grow up, and that makes him like one of our own.

5

John Leguizamo as Dr. Victor Clemente

Okay, so he was only on for 12 episodes, but I still miss him. He brought a quirkiness to the show that hadn't been seen since Dr. Romano was there and unaffected by helicopters. He had his own ideas and methods for getting things done and didn't back down. He was always right.

6

Goran Visjnic as Dr. Luka Kovac

I don't even know if he's gone or not. He just hasn't been on the show so far this season after he flew back to Croatia at the end of last season, and I haven't seen an explanation yet. Regardless, I miss him. There's just something really cool about him and his "imperfectness." The more things he does wrong, the hotter he is.

William H Macy as Dr. Morganstern - I love Macy in everything he has done. If you never seen it, rent Door to Door. Wonderful.

Thought of both of them ... and while I, too, enjoy Macy in everything he does, I simply don't "miss" him from the show. As far as Clooney, when he left, I would have thought I would miss him from the show, but I really don't I enjoyed him on the show, and I think he just had the right amount of time on there.

love the list. I am an er junkie too. I never answer the phone during that hour. I have watched it from the beginning. I too miss the characters that have moved on. I watch it even though I think it peaked a while ago. It has become such a habit to view it every Thurs. night. I used to be so mad when they prempted it or had a rerun.
