Introduction
A list of stuffs I want to do in South East Asia...I'll try to put a picture for each of them once they are completed (only pictures I took of course)
1
Riding an elephant
I did it in Luang Prabang, Laos and it wasn't as good as I was expecting. Next time I will try the Mahout course (Mahout is the name given to the Lao elephant whisperer) to learn how to ride the elephant on my own. Sound much cooler! This is a picture of my Mahout, he was a really nice chap.

2
Meditating with a monk
I did it at the Wat Sok Pa Luang, a temple in the suburb of Vientiane. Every Saturday afternoon, a monk is teaching the basics of meditation in English. Really enjoyed it, very relaxing...
3
Getting at least a dozen of massage
I have tried a lot of different massage, the traditional Lao, the Traditional Thai, the Thermotherapy, the Herbal and the foot massages. I never had an oil massage though, I need to try this one (but I heard it takes a while before the oil comes off your body). EDIT: I had my first oil massage, 3$ for an hour, bargain!!
4
Spending a night in a Lao family
I have been proposed to spend next Saturday night at one of my Lao friend, Noy. She is leaving in a village 30km outside Vientiane and told me that half of the village are composed by her family. I can't wait to rent my motorbike and get there!
5
Learning how to cook Lao food with a chef
There is some cooking lessons in a guesthouse near Vientiane. They take you to the morning market to buy food, the chef teach you how to cook it and then you eat...
6
Harvesting rice
When I spent the night in one of my Lao friend family, they took us into a rice paddy field and we gave it a try. It was quite funny for 15 minutes, but it was so hot! I can't believe they were doing it all day long, they are so brave.
7
Tubing in Vang Viang
Floating downstream the river on inner tubes (big trucks tyres). I heard it's not too fast, but some tourists have done it while drunk at night and have died!

8
Spending a few days in Luang Prabang
Luang Prabang is probably the nicest city in Laos. Under the umbrella of the Unesco since 1995 (World Heritage site), the city hasn't change that much despite the growing interest of Westerners for this beautiful and quiet city.

9
Eating insects
You can find in a lot of places across South East Asia. I tried some small fried crickets, it was good, you might find some legs stuck in your teeth though ^^
10
Participating to a boat race for Ok Phansa
www.flickr.com/photos/yoshindustry/1530449144/in/…
I don't know why I said yes, but I enrolled for this boat race taking place on the 27th of October for celebrating the end of the raining season (Ok Phansa) and that was a crazy idea. Now I can't quit anyway ^^ Basically, there is 50 people on a boat paddling in rythm to go as fast as possible, to make it more serious, you have to shout in Laos at the same time. Few weeks before I did it, the boat sank in the Mekong, scary!!
EDIT: I had such a fantastic day, we've done two races and two just for fun. We didn't manage to win (I think we were the worst team by far ^^), but we won the entertaining price!
EDIT: The race is next Saturday, I'm not allowed to drink alcohol or have sex on Friday night and I have to go to bed at 9 ^^

Watching a cock fight
www.flickr.com/photos/yoshindustry/1512134956/in/…
Chatuchak is the biggest market in Bangkok. Every weekend, 17000 stalls are installed and you can find pretty much everything for nothing in this crazy market. While walking, I came across the cock place and saw a couple of cock fights. They were not fighting to death, the first one turning his back is losing.

12
Going to a Lao herbal sauna
13
Renting a motorbike and going on a trip outside town
Went to Buddha Park outside Vientiane, Laos. My first time on a motorbike, so a 60 km round trip was quite a challenge, and I was carrying a friend of mine, but we made it! I paid 10$ for renting the motorbike 2 days including gas, so cheap and so worth it...
14
Taking a Tuk-Tuk after negociating the price very hard
Tuk-Tuk drivers might be the laziest people in Asia (always sleeping in their Tuk-Tuk and reluctant to give you a ride), but they know how to rip you off when it comes to negociating. I start being experience with it now, but gosh, it' s not easy!

15
Eating in a boat on the Mekong River

16
Cooking and eating my own Papaya salad
I learned how to cut the Papaya and make a good salad. I couldn't really eat Papaya salad before, because it's too spicy, but since I did my own salad, I didn't put too much Chilli and it was good...
Sounds like a plan. I'm going to forgo looking it up and ask, what's a Lao herbal sauna?
posted 364 days ago
Yes, it's definitely a plan, I am working in Laos for 5 weeks and already had a chance to try a few things. A Lao herbal sauna is a typical sauna in Laos, there is a woodfire with a special herb preparation burning outside the sauna with a chimney going straight inside the sauna and making steam. I went to a sauna in a wat (place where the monks live, with a temple in the middle), the herbal preparation is kept secret and it smells very nice, although it's a bit irritating for the eyes. The monks are using it after 6pm and it wasn't very clean, so I was a bit suspicious at first, but it was an incredible experience. I also had a Lao massage for 3$ an hour at the same place, was really great!

Fascinating stuff! Keep us posted on how things go. I want to hear about the elephant ride! (I don't want to actually ride on one. I just want to live vicariously and hear about someone else's ride!) :-)

Since I read that it was possible to ride an elephant, I am obsessed, they are so cute ^^ I plan to go in an elephant trek, either in Cambodia or Thailand...I'll keep the list updated...but the elephant ride is on the top of my list!!

Sign me up for everything EXCEPT eating insects!

I wasn't so keen on eating insects, but I forced myself to do it (in order to check the box on my list) ^^

What does #5 consist of?
Pass on the crickets; well, might consider it if they were chocolate coated.
Couldn't do #9.
But the rest sounds really cool. It's wonderful that you want to immerse yourself and try new things.

#5 is a very popular activity in Vang Viang Laos, they put you in a big truck tyre and then you float downstream the river...
Crickets were not chocolate coated unfortunately, but it would have helped. Crickets were rather small though, there is much bigger one to eat, I might try in Thailand if I'm very motivated ;)
#9 was ok, because it's not a fight to death. I heard that in some places, they fix blades on the cocks (I suppose on their wings) so that they can kill each others more quickly, silly!

Ahhh...I know tubing. In Phoenix you grow up tubing the Salt and Verde rivers. Big inner tubes, a cooler with food and beverages, shoes of some sort to protect the piggies and sunburned thighs and shoulders.

Not as adventuresome and as cool sounding as the Vang Viang in Laos, now it just sounds boring compared to your adventures. I will be checking your blog and telling the daughter to also. She is always looking for travel ideas.

The food was really not great and a bit pricey (although pricey is not a term I could use around here ^^). I have been invited to another boat dinner 2 days ago, and it was the same...
Thanks for the link Kathybelle, the pictures are amazing, I recognise a couple of place I'll visit in 2 weeks during my trip to Cambodia!!! Sounds really cool.

Hi. Checking your progress. How did the boat race go?

Keep those pictures coming! This is very interesting.

The boat race was amazing, we were the worst team ever, but we had so much fun! The other teams were really impressive, some of them only composed by women (I don't know how they could do it). I'm really proud to have done the effort to participate, after the first training I was going to give up!
I finally managed to have a dozen of massages, which is not too bad for less than 4 weeks ^^ I'm going to Cambodia next Sunday after spending a day in Bangkok and my main goal will be to find an elephant trek to tick the first line of my list ;)

I am actually going back to Paris for Christmas (waiting for my flight to Paris at the moment of the writting) and will do the cooking lessons when I am back in January ^^ Travelling in this part of the world was so much fun, and OnMyList has been motivating me to do the stuffs I really wanted to do, for that I am grateful!
