Introduction
Here's my quick summary; Intellectual Property Laws stifle competition and force the creation of cookie cutter "art" and celebrities have way, way, way, way, too much money.
MTV Cribs
If you've ever seen this show, you've seen the ridiculously lavish and useless homes that some of these celebrities live in. I honestly think I saw some rapper that had a chrome toilet.
Oh, and the best part, that's probably not the only house they have.

Last year, Tom Cruise was at #1. This douche bag got paid something like 36 MILLION dollars for making that horrible piece of giraffe shit known as Mission Impossible 3. I mean, how many of these people are using their fame for anything other than some cult that believes in aliens...
Remember the good old days?
I'm talking about medieval times, when artists were poor, hard-working and extremely passionate people? Musicians got beheaded for bad performances in front of kings and actors got pegged with fruit for being morons.
Now we have Jessica Simpson...they need to be brought down a couple pegs.

Where does your money go?
Even though most musicians get paid way too much, they're still not getting the real cut of their profits. If you really want to support good music, go to their show or go online and buy a t-shirt or two.
Because a lot of software/websites are crap
Honestly, back in the day, making a nice looking website was a huge hassle without some of the "nicer" applications out there. This gets back to stifling competition...Unless there is a free alternative to some piece of software you need, I say steal it.
Linux just isn't there yet
I think it will be someday, but until then, I'm stealing the latest and greatest versions of windows.
Payback
How many horrible movies have you seen in your life? How about horrible CD's that you've bought? Well, I don't want to do that anymore. I like checking stuff out before I pay for it...like a test drive. If it sucks, you get nothing. If it's great, you might even get more than you were expecting.
Too many advertisments
Consume, consume, consume. Watching TV without some sort of DVR is almost unbearable after you've made the leap. Besides commercials, you've got product placement...not only on TV, but in movies and even music now. For your viewing pleasure, most pirate groups take the majority of commercials out of their releases.
Oh yea, downloading doesn't hurt sales

The big drop in music sales, which happened to occur around the same time as p2p's birth had more to do with people finishing upgrading their music collections to CD than it did with piracy.
Sharing is caring
In the grand scheme of things, the restriction of information to those with money is just shitty. Just look at OML and other websites based on social interaction. What if it costed money to view these lists...and what if you got sued for every list you made that was close to one someone else has.
This site wouldn't be one tenth as popular if it was based on the current methods of handling intellectual property.

The current situation is hurting emerging technologies
Instead of embracing and working with new technologies, they're being attacked in the name of profit. Save internet radio.
100% agree with all these reasons.
My take is that if the product was offered at a reasonable price that people would rather buy it than steal it. And don't get me started with DRM (digital rights management)...
