OK OK. Consider us on the bandwagon. Although we like to fancy ourselves a bit against the grain, we couldn't resist. We're going to contribute to the mass stampede of iPhone mania. We're giving away an 8GB iPhone on July 15.

most popular list wins!
The author of the most popular list between July 1 and midnight on July 14 wins. Popularity is measured by number of views. Views are calculated by counting each user only once per day, per list.

exisiting lists are fair game (with one caveat)
The views for existing lists that happened before July 1 don't count. We are only counting views from July 1.

create more lists
More lists mean more possibilities that one will catch fire.

write commentary on each list item
Personal flair seems to add to the popularity of the best lists.

promote your list (a list within a list)
You can do this a number of ways, such as:
1) emailing your lists to friends. have them forward to their friends.
2) "digging" your own lists on the site digg.com (free registration required)
3) posting links to your lists on blogs, myspace, facebook, flickr, or other sites
4) getting other people to link to your list. If it's relevant to the topic, you might find many blogs willing to link to your lists by shooting them an email request.

When you do the next standings update, could it include list views? A few on the list have views from before the contest window. I'd like to know how I'm doing versus the competition ;)
LOL, no robots for me. The list just got posted around to several of the sites mentioned and is getting some good attention from the skinning community. :)

Yeah, sorry -- I think your list kinda sucks and I'm going to ride your ass 'till the end of the contest. When it comes down to it, I don't really care about winning as much as I care about you not winning, or at least having to expend a ridiculous amount of effort to do so. I'm petty like that. OMG, I don't even own a mac and I only got into the ipod last year. That's how much I care about the iphone. This whole contest is about promoting OML and winning over new users with our brilliant content. Writing a list that primarily appeals to the "skinning community" (eww, that sounds gross) and then riding that lone horse to victory offends me.
Windows skinning is only so cool, and the idea of a member with only one list winning the competition is simply lame -- there are so many other legit folks who write lists every day, getting in on the action and build this site's community. Start participating and perhaps I won't feel so sore about it. Seriously, If you write 20 great lists, throw a photo in your profile and get with the program I'll give you a pass.
I wouldn't even go to all this effort if it were say, Pam or MrLister in the lead. Speaking of -- why so little effort from the OML superstars? Seriously, you guys are worthy competition. Pam! MrLister! I need you guys in the game to feel like a real competitor.

*sigh* it's not an advertisement. If it were anything of that sort, I would have made it a list exclusively about the site and not mentioned pretty much all of our competition. I've actually been actively seeking suggestions for other sites for the list.
If you're mad because I'm a newcomer to the site, great. You're doing little to make me want to stay, and a heck of a lot to make me want to leave. If you're looking to beat me purely out of spite, fine, but I feel sorry for you if that's the case.
I entered the contest for fun, wrote a list I was knowledgeable about that wasn't just something along the lines of "10 reasons puppies are cute" and passed it around to relevant people and sites. Basically exactly what the contest was about, getting links to OML. I even made points to mention the site name and how it's a cool new social site. Because I do think it's a fun and interesting site worth checking out.
Did the contest bring me here? Yes. But then again, wasn't that part of the point?

I think what Cior was saying was that all of a sudden a list appears from someone that only posts one list, no pic, etc... and they get a ton of hits. I think what you are doing is great Zoomba, you are spreading the OML word to the greater web.

I have every intention of participating more here :) I was just on vacation last week so most of my time this week was spent catching up on work and other stuff. There will be more from me soon!
