Introduction
I started thinking about OML and why people open their thoughts to strangers on sites such as these. There are some of us who have created alternate personalities and are not showing their true colors; but most of us are just open books - or lists.
Heart on my sleeve
Ok, if you go to my lists you will find out:
I am in my mid 50's, live in Missouri, have two kids and a husband who cooks, I am a Christian and politically conservative, I like order and good grammar, I can be funny / or not so much, I try to be caring and nice; basically I am an open book. If you've paid any attention at all you know as much about me as my friends do.

Why?
Writing
I enjoy writing and it's good to have an outlet. Had I followed through with my college plans I would have gone to journalism school. I am not interested in it enough to write stories, etc. This is the perfect place for me to turn a phrase or two and receive a little positive feed back.
Humor
My mom had the greatest wit. I inherited some of it. I like to try to be funny and write things just as I'm thinking them in my head. I can do that here. Some times it works and some times it should have stayed in my head.
Insight
Reading other people's ideas opens a window to how real people think about things. Additionally, I love seeing really talented people turn a phrase: Kathybelle, gratefuldaisy, Ol' Hippie, Raant, Kelly, Yoyology, Emory, luckydog, and so many others are able to express themselves well and I have learned from reading their lists and comments.
Why are they here? The die hards.
My guesses as to a few of the contributors reasons.
KB and I have talked and we both are somewhat "addicted" to this site now. I think Miss Daisy is probably here for many of the same reasons we are. We enjoy many things in our lives, including our families and this is a way to share that. Raant is an entertainer at heart and this is another outlet for him. And he is great at it. Ol' Hippie likes to share his points of view and intelligence. He is often right on with his observations and comments. Hmmm...he may have an agenda also. Emory likes to share his drawings and ideas - and I am really glad he does.

Why are they here? The "not as hooked category"
For a while we had the lady who pushed her Ebay site on everything until Ol' Hippie called her on it. But, mostly, I think people really want to share what they like about their lives: the music, the food, the clothes, the people, their pets, their vacuum cleaners (?), etc.
Some of the listers are friends or relatives to the site originators and want to see them succeed with their vision. Those friends and family either became regulars or check in periodically to see what is going on.

OR ?
I am not a particularly insightful person. Reading people is not my strongest suit; I just think every one is nice and forth right. So, please correct me if I've guessed wrong and, if you want, share your reasons for being here.
Maybe GD is a serial killer and those young boys she pictured are her next victims.
Maybe KB has plagiarized her stuff and is an expert cut and paste artist.
Maybe OH really works for the Republicans and he is doing test runs on the opposition points to see how they fly.
Maybe Raant is a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde who is really a first grade, teetotaling, Barry Manilow fan.
Please comment on your raison d'etre - if you'd like.

Sustainable
Hopefully every lister will keep on sharing and bringing on new people, for whatever reasons they want to be here.
Y'all come on back now, ya hear.

Great pondering's Pam!
And yes, you got me I'm a teetotaler..... I smoke and drink on the golf course too, I made it to second grade, and Barry Manilow ROCKS!!!
And Ol' Hippie is a secret adviser to Mr. Bush.
If you believe all that, I have a "great" 1996 Chevy Cavalier I'd sell you! I'll even give you the OML discount!

Bottom line, Pam, I'm here because it is so much fun. There are many talented, creative, and funny people here, and it is fun to interact with them. Nice list. :)

Busted! I am, in fact, Karl Rove. . . . . .or is it Karl Marx. . . . . . .actually closer to Groucho Marx.

Maybe not Groucho, but Grumpy...?

Cutting and pasting has been my long suit since kindergarten.
I think you nailed everyone's true identity. :)
I don't paste my heart on my sleeve here...the internet is too big and too dangerous!
