Great list. Any sub for powerpoint?

Open office does powerpoint, spreadsheeting, layouts for comic books if you feel ambitious :)

It's like MS Word on steroids. Almost everything is the same, but easier. PLUS, it will read existing Word file, and just about ANY file! The minus is that Word, being a stingy microsoft product, will not read third party documents, open office being one of them.

It's a toy :)

Good list; I'll try the Firefox.

But I don't know how anything could be better than Office Pro 2007. Better than Word? Better than Power Point? How? I use Word, Excel, Outlook, and PP pretty much every day; I get calls from friends, business associates who have seen my Power Point presentations, and relatives asking how to do stuff. And I figure I use something like 10% of the software's capabilities. Software today is awesome.

I use Easy GIF Animator to make stuff move in Power Point; do you have a better alternative?

Terrific list. Thanks! So if I use these what can I get rid of?

Norton anti virus (which is a big pain in the a**?

All of the photo things that have come with different cameras and printers?

Sonic?

Everything I have is already in office 2003 which suits my needs just fine; what would be the advantage to downloading Open Office?

The short answer is to stick with what you have running (Word or Office Pro), you are used to it, and Mr.Gates already got your money. Open Office is for someone who needs the best free word processor available.... it just happens to be equal or better than MS Word.

Pam ..... Norton works. It is also a festering pile of elephant dung that has been left in the hot sun, run over, and spread around.

It is a resource hog! It runs ALL the time, taking up to 50% of your processor and memory... again, AT ALL TIMES!! And...they charge you for it!! This is not acceptable.

If you have kids using the computer, go with AVG free anti virus. It's good, less intrusive on your system, and....free!!

If it is just you primarily, use Clamwin. Scan when you have downloaded something, not ALL the time. Set it for a weekly scan, and forget about it. A great tool!!
