Introduction

This coming from someone who has tried to move away several times...i guess you could say i've finally come to appreciate my home.

1

Hermann

This is the most adorable little wine town. I just discovered it last year and I'm in love.
2

the incredible number of mexican restaurants

there is one on every corner of Springfield now, for reals.
3

i'm constantly reminded of how scared i am of super-religious people

they have something in common with the mexican restaurants...
4

people are very down to earth

i'm reminded of this when i travel. it's kinda refreshing to come back to my humble roots.
5

missouri wines...good and cheap!

some of my favorites are Les Bourgeois, Hermanhoff, Stone Hill...
6

you can't beat the cost of living

7

four beautiful seasons

8

outsiders think we all live on farms

Not that there's ANYTHING wrong with farming, but it's really easy to impress people when they have automatically assume you don't know what a metropolitan area looks like.

i need to make a very similar list. things that will be included: seasons, comfort, foliage, friends, family and opportunity to make a difference.

since you like hermann and missouri wines, you have to get up to augusta and dutzow some time. the montelle, balducci and mount pleasant wineries are all really good. plus, the montelle sits on a 200 foot bluff like the les bourgeois in rocheport.

as for number 8, we're supposed to be the ignorant ones, here in the midwest. but i guarantee we know a lot more about the east and west coast, than they know about us.

oh, yeah - as for cost of living. i'm about to buy a 1500 sqft ranch home, all hardwoods, fireplace, huge yard with privacy fence, in a nice section of town, for just over 100k. eat that, california!

:)

trevor is right - you sure can't beat that cost of living. 100K for that house blows my newly jaded colorado mind.

i agree with your list but am now constructing a counter-list of reasons Missouri stinks! :)

Midwest people are soooo nice. When we first moved here from Phx. we'd be driving along and other drivers would wave at us - a wave may consist of just lifting a finger off of the steering wheel; no Robin not just the middle one - anyway, at first I thought everybody knew my hubband. Finally, he explained to me that's just what folks do. (Except for Kathybelle, because she never recognized the cars people drive.) I love: Missouri, Arizona, Maine, parts of California and Texas and DisneyWorld.
