Introduction
There are so many crappy things about getting older; we've all heard them: stiff joints, age spots, grey hair or no hair, incontinence (yep, I'm putting it right out there) that I've decided to concentrate on the great things. So here I go...
1
Respect
Your kids are old enough to realize that you are, after all, not an idiot and treat you with a modicam of respect.
2
Memories - Nope, not the song
As you get older your memories get that fuzzy filter thing that photographers use. Everything seems nicer, funnier, less painful than when you remembered it 10 years ago.
3
People - Again, not the song
By now you know who your real friends are. They are the people who have stuck with you during the good times and bad. And you know for sure because there have been alot of good times and bad times by now.
4
Doctors
Wow! As you get older you get to meet at lot more docs. They are usually way younger than you and look like they should be in high school.
5
Senior Discounts
I can now order the Senior Root Tooty Fresh and Fruity at IHOP! Woo Hoo!!
Wow!! I got to use the senior discount when I went to see Harry Potter this week. Ain't life grand??

6
Shoes
I can get away with wearing comfortable shoes. I'm not supposed to look hot or sylish anymore. I'm supposed to look respectable and comfortable.
7
Clubs & organizations
As one of the elder members you don't have to do as much. Leave it to the youngsters. Hey, not really fair I know, they are just starting careers and may or maynot have kids; but I did it back then and so can you. Buck up!!
8
Food
When you just don't want to eat something, you can politely and with a bit of a cringe say, "No thank you, that just doesn't agree with me any more." Then the food offerer feels sorry for you leaves you alone.
9
Tech stuff
It's okay to be tech stupid. You are not expected to understand all of the new jargon and gadgets. If you are lucky to have a grandkid around to explain it, all the better. Not me yet, tho.
10
Wrinkles and such
They are gonna be here. Just assume that they mean you have character and a fun life, act that way and others will assume the same thing.
11
Swimsuits
I have had the same 2 Land's End suits for about 12 years. They have been up and down 40 pounds with me and are still just fine. I may never have to buy another suit and if I do, I can order from Land's End (or elsewhere) and not try on because nothing is going to look very good.
i think you have to be pretty old for this to work, but i'm excited to no longer filter what i say. i'll be able to say whatever i want no matter how offensive. by then, i will have earned it.

Twilight Zone!! I was thinking of adding exactly that when I got home, even using the word filter. I'm also a lot less shy, or more forward, depending on perspective. I'll talk to just about anybody; in lines, at restaurants, school functions, whatever.

We throw out the filter and the kids try to put it back! :-)

My older son just turned 18 a few days ago to remind me of how quickly time is passing, so this list was a good one for me to read today! :-D

I'd forgotten about this one. It will help me feel good about myself today.

A little more than a week until my 54th birthday!!!!
I had to review this list. All considered it is nice to know you don't wish to go backward and forward is such a positive concept!
Here's to forward!! :-)
