Introduction
Just my short list of people that I'm always nice to during the course of the day (besides people I know of course)!
1
The Dude at the Breakfast Cart
He's very nice and always remembers that I like my coffee with a ton of milk and a regular amount of sugar. :) It pays to be nice to the guy who makes your coffee. :-D
2
The Bodega Deli Counter Peeps
Along the same lines as #1, it pays to be very nice to the dudes who make your breakfast and/or lunch. I find that the nicer you are, the fresher your food and the more meat they give you in the sandwiches. Plus, it's just good business to be nice to people who handle your food. :)
3
The Super/Doormen in my Office Building
Yet, another group of people it pays to be nice to. You never know when you need to call down for a favor (or to have the air turned on/off...hey I work in an old building so we don't have advanced "in office AC/Heat control"). They put things in the mail for us and more.
4
The Parking Attendant
Hey...if you ever want to make sure that when you come back to pick up your car you don't wait forever in a day...be nice to him.
5
The People Who Ring Up Your Bill at Any Fast Food-esque Spot
I've gotten lots of free drinks this way, and no, not the alcoholic kind. It's amazing what a smile and a "thank you" can get you - even in a city like New York.
6
Security at the Airport
Hey...talk about a thankless job. If ever there was a job that would make you want to run for the hills, this has to be it. No one wants to strip off their shoes and endure the torturous 3oz test, but there's no need to take it out on the TA. Often I've found that harmless flirting (with the dudes who work there) and a smile and a "thank you" have helped to speed my trek through security.
7
The Shoe Salesguy
I remember in college there was this hottie at the Nordstrom shoe department. If ever there was a reason to have an addiction to shoes, he was it! But at any rate, why not be nice to someone so that they can cater to your every need and desire for the perfect pair of shoes. :)
8
The Bartender
Just too obvious for words, if you need this explained then you're probably not nice to a lot of people and you probably think that service everywhere sucks.
Great list, Miss Style31. When you have kids you learn it pays to be really nice to the secretary at the school. I always made sure that they were on the Christmas gift list. Another thankless, low paying job; but they have the power to make you and your child's life at school easier.

Good list, bigapple. I try to be extra nice to my car mechanic because I want him to take good care of my ride.

That's a good one, Sylvester! If I had a car I would be nice to the mechanic too! Another one I should have added - the building super in my apartment!
