Introduction
This is my response to Pam's list: http://www.onmylist.com/category/miscellaneous/Etiquette-iquities_1
Replying to All
There are very few instances when you need everyone to read your response. It's a nuclear option, and should be treated as such.
Putting a large list of e-mail addresses in the To: field
That's what Bcc: is for, people. I don't want your spam-happy cousin to be able to harvest my work e-mail so he can start sending me his daily stupid-grams.
Quoting the entire conversation when replying to only a part of it.
This really peeves me when people on mailing lists/listservs do it. The most egregious offenders are people who get the digest version and reply WITH THE ENTIRE DIGEST QUOTED. Eeediots!
Oh, and that brings me to...
Oh, and that brings me to...
USING ALL CAPS
In a medium where bold, italics, and underlining still don't transfer very well from one place to another, typing in all caps is one of the few ways left to add emphasis. When you put everything in caps, you are SCREAMING AT ME. STOP IT!
Linking to questionable content without an "NSFW" tag
Some of us surf at work. Give me a heads-up before somebody's bajingo pops up on my library PC, mmkay?
Feeding the trolls
Trolls are a fact of online life. They will always be with us, trying to get a rise out of everyone and getting their jollies from our anger. Don't engage them. Ignore and they will go away.
Forwarding urban legends without checking them out
Bookmark the above link, everyone. Right now. Then when you get the latest warning about toxic Magic Eraser sponges, Purel huffing, or exploding Dust-off, you can verify before you send it off to everyone in your address book.
i think that this is the first time "before somebody's bajingo pops up on my library pc" was ever typed. Well played sir. Well played.

This is so perfect. A "big right on" to all of these (I was going to capitalize right on for emphasis, but decided against it). Awesome!!

Yes. Perfect. Now we just need to spam this whole list to everybody on the planet.

schwoopie fonts for your email text - do they think that looks like pretty cursive handwriting? or emails with an awful graphic background so you can't read the text at all. who cares about the content when you have a pretty trellis with ivy?

kathybelle - A "troll" is somebody who posts things on public discussions, mailing lists, etc. for the express purpose of causing trouble. There's a good wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_troll
kelly - I can't believe I forgot the evil that is Comic Sans. Thank you for reminding me!

Gotta second all of these. I get about 50 e-mails a day from clients, so I have to open them; then, if I'm nice to them on the phone, they add me to their freakin "joke" list. So then I get 150 e-mails a day and two thirds of them have 4755 Fwd:Fwd:Fwd:Fwd:Fwd:Fwd:Fwd: on them, and if you do page down far enough to actually see the message, it's some bullshit joke that wasn't funny the first 600 times I saw it. And when your associates are my age, about half the time there is nothing there at the bottom anyway. Or they attach a picture with 14 discrete viruses. AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHH!!!` God, I hate old people.
