Introduction

Alright... having just made it through my teenage years I have come to learn a very important fact... boys tend to be a little slow! What my friends and I consider to be common sense tend to be lost on the guys our age who claim "we are so complicated!" I am not complicated and I'm going to break it down for you... So here it is! A guy's little cheat sheet so maybe they won't screw up so badly... and who knows? A few of those stupid girls may figure out a thing or two, too!

1

Don't call me all the time!

Once a day is pushing it! I consider myself a bit on the low maitenence side so this could be adjusted for different girls. But think about it... if you call me all the time to tell me everything about your day what are we going to talk about it when were together? Which brings me to...
2

Don't expect me to spend every waking minute with you!

You will be disappointed! I have friends, family, interests, a job, so many things I have to do... I will make time for you if I am giving you the time of day at all... patience! Go hang out with your family or friends... or go work!
3

Do take me somewhere nice... occasionally!

Too many times I have "dated" guys who never really took me anywhere beyond campus and partied and whatnot. I'm not talking all the time, just once in a while, take me somewhere just us! I'll even split the check...
4

Do have a car!

This only really applies in Springfield and such areas, I learned in Europe you can get around just fine without one, but too many time I have seen my friends get treated as taxi cabs rather than girlfriends! I admit it's partly their fault... but lets just avoid the situation altogether!
5

Don't be jealous!

I am with you! There is a reason for that and there is a reason I'm not with the other guy... think about it!
6

Don't blatantly check out the girl across the room

A quick peek is fine, I understand... and I want my looking rights, too! But lets just avoid another awkward situation and skip the oogling
7

Don't lie

Its too much work and I'm going to find out anyway... trust me!
8

Don't cheat

Were young... if you wanna be with someone else, thats fine! I will move on, I promise! Its just another one of those ways to avoid trouble and drama and such
9

Don't expect me there if you want to come back

This just happened to me this summer... No! Just no! Even if I wanted to make it work... it won't! You had your shot, you blew it, move on!
10

Do have your own life

Kind of goes along with number two!
11

Do know a little bit more about me than what I look like!

I'm super interesting... if you take the time to find out!
12

Do make the first move

I'm just old fashioned like that!
13

Do remember that we're 20(ish)

I don't want to hear about the future or marriage or any of that nonsense... we're young now!
14

Don't tell me what to do...

I won't listen!
15

Do get in good with my friends

I probably like them more than you!
16

Do put me in my place every once in a while

Chance are I need it... and no one likes a doormat!
17

Do be able to talk to my parents

Especially mom... because she will talk... and talk... and talk.... and talk...
18

I'm sure there are plenty more!

I know I'm missing somethings... suggestions, anyone?
19

Oh! I forgot! Do practice good old fashioned chivalry now and then!

Occasionally open the door or if were somewhere nice stand up when I leave the table... Not too up on it... ask your grandma!
20

Do have a brain

Stupid people kind of bug me...
21

Do have goals, too!

Have a little bit of direction beyond the frat party!

I sounds to me like you need to get out of middle-America. You make guys sound like cavemen.

if i remember my college dating experiences correctly (and that's kinda a big 'if') this is a pretty accurate summation of guys at the time...

no offense, robin. i'm sure you're wonderful.

Good to know I raised ya right, darlin'. And, Robin, Noah is from middle America...

Sounds like you need to meet a nice charming GAY man to meet all your needs.

I got out of middle America... I got out of the country... change in accent but guys are generally the same!

Smart list! There are definitely many intelligent and thoughtful guys with the above qualities. My two daughters each found one...with the exception of #12. They both made the first move! If you see him, don't let him pass!

what a great list. needs to be an email forward to all men...as opposed to those forwards of naked chicks or crude jokes. it would do them much more good.

kinda sends mixed signals. you want him to be a fun 20 year old, with goals and class? can't have it all honey!
Bork_thumb erikuposted 492 days ago
But I deserve it all!

To be fair, it's not always just guys who do some of these things. In particular, with #9 (Don't expect me there if you want to come back), a couple of weeks after we got married, one of my husband's exes looked him up and called to see if he wanted to go out with her again. Granted, she didn't know about us, but from what my husband said about her, she was the LAST person he'd be interested in seeing. He actually wouldn't go into the local Wal-Mart for several months once because he thought he saw her working there. We ended up having to change to an unlisted phone number and go through all the websites that list phone numbers and request to be deleted.

This was a good list, but there were a few items forgotten...like don't leave the toilet seat up and... don't fart in public...loudly
Hairy_chuck_thumb keystone knightposted 490 days ago
You know, I thought those were a given!
Profile_thumb brie-pposted 490 days ago
As far as toilet seat and farting, you thought they were a given because you were taught to thing that. The interesting thing will be how the guys in Scotland (when you get there) respond to your preferences.
Pam-oml-avatar-2_thumb Pamposted 482 days ago
Mom! I'm not going to scotland for the guys... I'm going for the education! Seriously! I think I'm still a bit partial to good ol' American ones!
Profile_thumb brie-pposted 480 days ago
men in mid-America aren't all cavemen, Just as women in mid-America aren't all bible thumpers. It's just a majority and once you find an outlet that creates opportunity to meet the guy who casually holds the door open for you, Offers to walk you home from a party even though he knows he might come off as a creep, and can carry out a conversation without mentioning how drunk he is or how awesome his fraternity is (this one is a toughie). Just keep your eyes open and a slight grin.

Your list applies equally, if not more so, to girls. And I think you can shorten this list up quite a bit--
List Item #1: Be respectful
Haha, it is a pretty cool list though.
