A couple of true ladies:

Back when ladies wore dresses, crossed ankles or knees and sitting up straight was the norm. Now, most anything goes, including, occasionally, our modesty.

I think we need less noisy blathering and more content today. Consider "The View" ladies vs. Miss Hepburn:

Slips were worn under all dresses and skirts, even if lined.
Nylons were a must with dress shoes, although not open toed.
Purses and shoes matched.
Pearls were a very good thing and could be worn with almost any dress.
No white shoes or purses before Memorial or after Labor Days.
Either gold or silver jewelry; never mixed.
Dresses to church (with nylons and matching shoes & bag).
Denim was worn to the rodeo.

The appropriate gifts for a young woman to receive from a young man were: flowers, candy or books. Jewelry was not okay and Frederick's of Hollywood packages were a definite no-no.
