Cortina at Live Oak Ranch

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juan_Cortina

Hmm honoring a Mexican General?

Juan Nepomuceno Cortina Goseacochea (May 16, 1824–October 30, 1894), better known as Juan Cortina or by his nicknames "Cheno Cortina" and "the Red Robber of the Rio Grande", was a Mexican rancher, politician, military leader, outlaw and folk hero. He is famous for leading a Mexican force of irregulars and outlaws organized as a guerrilla insurgency first against the Republic of Texas, then the United States and the Confederate States of America. From 1842-1846, he was part of a secret faction of large Mexican ranchers who resisted attempts by the Texas Republic to lay claim to its southern region. During the Mexican-American War between 1846-1848 he was a commissioned officer in the Mexican Army fighting against the army of General Zachary Taylor. He is remembered most infamously for leading the First and Second Cortina Wars, usually referred as the Cortina Troubles in 1859-61, against the United States including the State of Texas and its Texas Rangers and local militia of Brownsville (Texas), and the U.S. Military, in the Rio Grande Valley area. However, Cortina's hatred of Texas was sufficient to be enlisted into the Union Army during the War Between the States and he lead a Union army in Southern Texas during the war. Following the war Cortina was pardoned by the Reconstruction government, and although he continued as a noted cattle rustler and virulent anti-Texan his power was effectively coopted into the post-war structure of Texas. He also figured prominently in the war against the Hapsburg and French in Mexico but fell in intrigue in the later part of the 19th century and was imprisoned before dying in Central Mexico.

There's a new one in Springfield called "Stonehinge," yeah, with an "i."

In Colorado I lived in Summer Park @ The Broadlands.... WTF is Broadlands??? What's with all the "at"s... If new home builders would spend more time and money on the homes and less on the naming and branding, these would be better places to live.

Our sub-div in Nixa is Cobble Creek and they put up a stupid water wheel that is supposed to, but never, does work. We have no stinkin creek, the only cobbles are fake ones in brick.

Your link with the pics of the waterwheel are clasic!

Are those the houses in the back of the middle pic? They look like little beige pyrimids.

I was by "The Vineyards" in Columbia, Mo today. It look just like a 'cluster' of houses?
Mexico_06_2_thumb Joeposted 510 days ago
Where I live they're naming shit for the animals they killed when they built the houses: Fox Run; Fox Crossing; Buffalo Ridge (to add insult to injury they've got some massive iron buffaloes at the entrance to the subdivision). Fuckin' developers.

Here are a couple of real ones near where I live:

Colonial Colony (couldn't they at least think of a synonym?)

Little Turtle and Big Turtles 1 AND 2
Empty_profile bionellyposted 491 days ago
P.S. Colonial Colony has street names that are all some kind of patriotic thing, like "Constitution Lane." There's also an area nearby where all the streets are names after racetracks, like "Churchill Downs Road" etc. I think they ran out of names or something though, because there is an intersection of Derby Downs and Derby Downs.
