we're moving. gross.

packing
does anyone enjoy this? the worst part is when you're near the end and have to pack the stuff you don't even know where it came from - musical beer openers, maps of amsterdam, sorority composites, five cuticle trimmers, etc. etc. etc.

parting anxiety
i get attached to each space i'm in. lots of energy spent to make it home. time spent getting to know your neighborhood and befriending your neighbors. now on to the next place.

selling stuff
we spent how much for that two years ago? you want to buy it? no? take it for free? fine.

money
moving truck, bubble wrap, newsprint, boxes, permit to park your moving truck, day laborers, contractors to fix hole we punched in the wall carrying couch up. this hasn't happened yet. just anticipating.

emptying out the pantry
the crap food i've avoided eating? eat it, or i'm going to have to move it.

unpacking trash
strangely, i get enjoyment out of unpacking and reorganizing. it's dealing with the aftermath of all of the boxes, newsprint and bubble wrap. i don't think our new neighbors will be pleased if we hog the community trash can.

downsizing
we're downsizing. i'm going to have to put on my creative hat to try to figure out where to keep towels, wrapping paper, vacuum cleaner, dog food, toilet paper, etc. etc. etc.

time
it's all consuming. no time for trashy tv. no time for phone calls. very little time for onmylist - for shame!

positives
let's end this on a positive note. i love cleaning, reorganizing, getting rid of clutter, redecorating, having an excuse to go to the flea market, new discoveries. bring it on.
Good luck Kelly! Moving sucks...but you could use your musical beer opener to open the "moving beers" that you, Noah & crew will need. Remember... take a drink of beer for ever 25-30 steps you take! No need to overexert yourself. Keep the maps of Amsterdam.... trust me.... they will come in handy someday!

I'm with you Kelly, it sucks. We hired professional packers once, and they literally packed our trash; "Hon, where do you want this tub of banana skins and milk cartons?"
I can imagine it would be tougher if you actually spoke to your neighbors. Maybe I'll try that sometime . . . . .naw.
