Introduction

I'm an 80s child all the way! Some might try to argue that you needed to be born in the late 70s to enjoy the 80s, but being an '82 baby, I remember plenty from the 80s. Take a walk down memory lane with me....

And as usual with my lists, #1 isn't necessarily better than the last number, etc., etc...

1

Smooshies

If you remember this toy then you're definitely an 80s child. My sister and I had tons of these things and their unbelievably small homes that you could "smoosh" them into. I like to consider the smooshie, the predecessor to the beanie baby.

Gem!

Who didn't love Gem...as a cartoon that is. Her and her rocking friends played music to beat the bad chicks (I forget their names). But, when Gem made the switch from a strictly cartoon character into a real doll...the drama began. Does anyone else remember how Gem was like 3 inches taller and much bigger than Barbie? So, whenever we tried to have the two types of dolls play together, Gem was like the red headed step-child.

Punky Brewster

I actually really hated this show, especially the main character and her irritating friend Cherry. But for some unexplainable reason I watched this show nearly every day after school until I grew out of the Punky Brewster phase. Punky Power!

227

If you remember this show, it was on NBC and starred the chick who was the maid on the Jeffersons as well as Jacquee who was later on Sister Sister as the mother. Honestly, I have a hard time remembering the plot, but it was a show I loved. :)

He-Man & She-Ra

Absolutely awesome. :) I had the She-Ra coloring book....and I watched both of their cartoons. That's all I remember. :-D
6

Fraggle Rock

This Jim Henson brainchild was a definite favorite of mine. I loved the little construction dudes who used to drive through randomly and the girl with the orangeish-red pigtails who used to drive through on a radish. :)
7

Adventures in Babysitting

I loved this movie because it took place in the midwest. And being woefully under-represented, us midwesterners have to snag our pride wherever we can get it. If you're curious, I'm from Indianapolis, just a mere 3 hrs from the location of this movie. But if you remember Thor was in this movie...which kind of looked like He-Man too. :)

Golden Girls

I still watch this show! But I loved watching this show on Friday nights while my sister and I played Barbies to celebrate that the weekend was here. It used to come on later in the evening after Dallas. (Yet another show that I liked only because of the music and set up of the opening credits...who shot J.R.?)

My Buddy & Kid Sister

I never had this toy but those stupid-ass commercials were so convincing. I always felt like not having one made me not as cool. :-\
10

The Lil' Miss Dolls Series

This definitely carried over into the 90s, but I had quite a few of these dolls. Usually, (if you don't remember these dolls) with the use of cold and hot water or filling the dolls brush with icy cold or piping hot water, you could change the dolls' hair or clothing color. And I think there was one I had that you could give it make up by adding hot or cold water. I'm telling you between my sis and I, we had all of the "Lil Miss" doll series.

Sunfire Romances

Ok, so obviously being an 80s child I was too little to enjoy these while they were current. But when I got into 5th grade on, I loved these books. They were the ones where it would be like "Amanda must choose between the love she left behind and the love she meets on the Oregon Trail". But basically, it was a positive female role model with a historical backdrop. Awesome series which is now discontinued.
12

The Baby Sitters' Club

I was a huge BSC fan! My sis and I had a ton of the books, plus the super specials! (Add points if you had the super special books)
13

The Brat Pack Movies:

Rather than listing each one, let's just say anything that had Molly Ringwald, Matthew Broderick, etc. I was a fan of. Here are some titles: Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Say Anything, Can't Buy Me Love...etc.
14

Gremlins & Critters

I can't remember which movie had it, but does anyone remember the three aliens that came from outerspace to get rid of the bad creatures (probably in Critters) and they had the one faceless alien who looked at the centerfold picture and turned into this centerfold model?! Add points if you do!
15

The Birth of MTV

I remember it! And I remember Remote Control where Adam Sandler started out. :)
16

Prodigy Internet at School

I'm sure this came at different times for different people, but I remember in 2nd grade (the end of the 80s for me) when we went to the school library to look at this new "Internet" concept. I thought it was a game and attempted to order roses through 1-800-Flowers until it started asking for payment info.
17

Oregon Trail!

I loved this old classic nearly black and white looking game! Make sure you buy enough food because without a doubt 3 people in your party will die. :-\ But I loved the hunting and if you finally made it to the Willhemette Valley (sp) when you had the choice to ford, ferry or cross the river.

Zed has typhoid!

You mean back when MTV actually showed music videos instead of stupid programming. I loved Fraggle Rock too.
