Only a day's drive to Missoula
not to mention a quick trip up to Keystone, not too far from Steamboat and other spots in CO. Yellowstone is only 9 hours, Jackson is 8, the Grand Canyon is 10, etc.
i love how you can be walking downtown in between huge buildings on busy streets and you can still see the mountains, rising even higher than the skyline.
i just might move to denver.

Have you spent much time in Denver? I didn't think so. The air polution is horrible. The traffic is worse than L.A. It is actually around 850 miles from Missoula, that's one hell of a day's drive. There are like three okay restaurants. Music scene is okay if you like the banjo. The population is a bunch of wanna be hippies talking environment as they cruise around in their Hummers, and Land Rovers. Denver metro is around 2.5 million people which ain't no way managable.
The mountains are pretty, but they mock you 5 days a week as you work. Take away the mountains and what do you get? Wichita. Spend some time there before yopu move.

you are one helluva naysayer, ol' hippie. i live in vail and as such have spent a more-than-decent amount of time in denver. for me, it's the perfect juxtaposition of urban life (i'm a city girl at heart) and the gorgeous outdoors (i'm learning to love this nature thing). so despite your negative stance on this (and seemingly most things), i'm with pedro - viva la denver.

I'm sorry if you find me negative emily. I love Vail and Breckenridge, if that helps. And I used to love Denver when I was a younger, and Denver had 200,000 people, and Colorado Springs and Boulder were distinct cities. You could get up in the morning an count the trees on the mountains. I'm not a fan of urban sprawl, or air pollution. My friends and associates that live in Denver are all looking to move out of the city, and all they do is bitch about the traffic, and lack of good restaurants. I just don't think it measures up as a "great urban city." Sorry.
I too have road tripped from KC to Denver about a dozen times, and from KC to Sarasota and back , and Boston to Sarasota and back on numerous occasions. It took 24 hours, so I suppose technically that is a days drive.
