A sheriff's deputy who killed six young people at a house party in Crandon, Wisconsin, apparently died after shooting himself three times in the head with a .40-caliber pistol, the state attorney general said.

Federal authorities are warning consumers not to eat Banquet frozen turkey and chicken pot pies or similar generic store-brand products because they may have caused an outbreak of salmonella poisoning.

A noose was discovered this week on the office door of an African-American professor at Columbia University, school officials and the New York Police Department said.

In a rare foray into foreign policy, U.S. first lady Laura Bush has called on Myanmar's military junta to "step aside," give up "terror campaigns" against its people and allow for a democratic Myanmar.
