Introduction
These are albums that at one time or another rocked my world. I may not listen to them much now, but they played an influential roll in shaping my musical taste. Some of them still hold up as favorites. Some not so much.
More to come....

Still really like this album. I remember my grandma Debbie buying me the record. Check out the sweet album cover too. (Is that really Michael?) Not only has MJ stood the test of time, his music has stood the test of him being totally creepy/alien, yet I still love his music. No matter what I know about him, I still like his music. Like for example, Tom Cruise is holding up less well in light of his recent PR collapse. Slightly hard to watch him now.
Michael Vick, I won't ever care what he does again? Michael Jackson, even though his crimes are worse, I'd still dance my ass off to Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'. Mama Say Mama Saw MaMa Cu sa, Mama Say Mama Saw MaMa Cu sa, Mama Say Mama Saw MaMa Cu sa, wooo!

Another one that still holds up. Probably still in my top 10 of all time. "Suck My Kiss," the fabulously named songs "Mellowship Slinky in B Major" "Apache Rose Peacock" are still some favorties. They mixed in a couple of ballads with their normal funk/punk mix like "breaking the girl" and "under the bridge" that worked well.
Still a phenomenal piece of work.
Appetite for Destruction

This was the high school football pregame CD of choice. (Metallica's self titled one worked too) I remember seeing the "welcome to the jungle" video in 7th or 8th grade and being blown away. The CD is actually still really good. Great song writing, guitars, and intensity. The songs have a certain sensitivity to them that you wouldn't expect from the cover.
The Chronic

Recycled P Funk grooves that most kids didn't even realize weren't original. Some unforgettable raps from Snoop and Dre that so many people still know all the words to. Let me ride....

I guess this was a 1993-1996ish favorite of mine at which point it was already 25 years old. Something about the sweetness of Jerry's voice here. The fantastic songs by Robert Hunter, the folky simple instrumentation. This is soulful stuff. Still sounds like a perfect batch of music to me.
I say if you don't have any Dead, this is the one you must get.
Being There

This was the one that got me really into Wilco. There are number of Wilco releases I like better now but for two years I would have told you this was my favorite. Its the sound of a band that just found their genius. Showing us glimpses of the brilliance that would appear later. There's a certain sweet soulful pop to it, not unlike the beach boys sound. Still a phenomenal album. It encapsulated everything I wanted in music at that particular time.
The first time I saw them live at the Blue Note they were playing songs from A.M. I wasn't that into them. Three years later they were one of my favorite bands.
As Nasty As They Want to Be

Bought this one simply because to the tape cover. Listened to it with jaw agape in secrecy of bedroom. Reciting the most explicit raps to girls at school, thinking I was cool. Makes me laugh at myself now. This was the tape that inspired "parental advisory" labeling but I had this before the warnings went in to action. Way before. Funny how suburban white kids were listening to hard core rap. I also listened to NWA, Public Enemy, Kool Moe Dee back in 7th grade.

Not my favorite Widespread Panic album (Everyday is) but one of them. This is album that came out when I saw live them the most times. I've got the most memories built around these songs. It was also a bit of a sonic departure for them. Everything a much more electric feel, even some turntables thrown in the mix. However I think the sounds suits them really well. I may make a list about things I really like about this CD. There are a bunch: Dottie Peoples, "Kiss the Mountain Air We Breath," the horns in Christmas Katie, the kid from Athens telling us about the new song One Arm Steve before the CD came out, and on and on.

I bought this in Miami at Tower Records without knowing anything about it. It was on an endcap and hey the cover and title sounded appealing. Cruising through south beach in my rented green mustang convertible blasting Dmitri sealed the deal. It was my soundtrack for two years. Its still awesome. Instant party.
