Introduction

YouTube is a great place to see the concert you missed, to try out music that you might want to buy or to go back and find vintage material of your favorite musicians in no particular order. Here's a few clips of mine that I really enjoy. There is so much material on YouTube that this list will probably just grow and grow. Enjoy!

1

Jethro Tull: Fat Man

www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlctJu-c2Mg

These guys even played with Fela Kuti. How cool is that!
2

Fela Kuti: Sorrow Tears & Blood

www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxVy4FS46r0

Never heard of Fela? It's certainly not for rednecks however I've rarely met a civilized person in my age group who doesn't care for a spot of Afrobeat once in a while.
3

Booker White: Aberdeen Mississippi Blues

www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsMpHHSLSlc

I love this guy's style.
4

Son House: Death Letter

www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jN5vqEyV7g

If your a White Stripes fan then I guess you know this one... Son House was a great blues man.
5

John Lee Hooker: Hobo Blues

www.youtube.com/watch?v=zYrVwGxlcFA

Some great vintage material...
6

Freddie King: Big Leg Woman

www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWOi_R7bxfA

One of my all time favorite blues songs from one of my all time favorite blues performers.
7

Bob Marley: Catch a Fire, Get Up Stand Up

www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkemW0GJB8s

A pity this guys is no longer around. Look closely at these guys; especially Peter Tosh. I think they might have been smoking some whakey weed... Naaah, ya think!
8

The Pogues: Dirty Old Town

www.youtube.com/watch?v=w52I72-1FT4

The drunker you are the better it sounds.
9

John Frusciante: Dying Song

www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnK27Is1AvY

This guy is pure emotion.
10

Peter Tosh: Bush Doctor

www.youtube.com/watch?v=bp5BTju5QBM

Legalize the herb!
11

Caetano Veloso: Cucurrucucu Paloma

www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-QC0_Dajhg

Every guy needs a couple songs like this to whip out at just the right moment when he's got a new chick.

12

The Velvet Underground: Sweet Jane

www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAZ--tLYdcw

On a lot of Lou Reed's music it sounds like he is trying hard to destroy any melody so that it's impossible to simply relax and enjoy. You can actually make it through the entire song on this version.
13

King Tubby Righteous Dub

www.youtube.com/watch?v=85ZxB9k25YE

I love dub and this guy is one of the all time best.
14

Jimi Hendrix: All Along The Watchtower

www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBaP_sNz-1E

This man requires no introduction
15

Pentangle: Reflection

www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvxjKg10MXc

A lot of people find their music tatty and difficult to listen to. I like it.
16

Cannonball Adderley Sextet: Work Song

www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-qHmihXJf8

These guys played in several different constellations with some of the best jazz musicians of the day. This is just one of the many songs in their huge repertoire.
17

Charlie Mingus & Eric Dolphy in Oslo

www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKDAbp9m5yw

Video footage of this era of jazz music seems to be rare in the US. Almost everything I found so far is recorded in Europe. Maybe it wasn't "white" enough for the day.
18

Charlie Parker & Dizzy Gillespie

www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkvCDCOGzGc

These guys also played with Cannonball Adderley. Here they are on their own.
19

The Cure: The Blood

www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PErOOLyBJQ

Some rehearsal footage. I think I was in nursery school when they did this. Very progressive for the time.
20

Led Zeppelin: Dazed and Confused

www.youtube.com/watch?v=QANPvHCqsjY

Jimmy Page doing his famous violin guitar thingy. The sound isn't that great but I still think it's pretty cool.

That Freddie King video is great. Plus you get the added bonus of seeing the biggest shirt collar EVER.

Son House sounds so vintage yet so contemporary at the same time. he was ahead of his time.

haven't listed to too much Fela but I see it in my future. Great vibe
