Introduction
Leadbelly was simply an amazing song writer. One of my favorites.
"Huddie William Ledbetter, (January 23, 1888 – December 6, 1949) was an American folk and blues musician, notable for his clear and forceful singing, his virtuosity on the twelve string guitar, and the rich songbook of folk standards he introduced. He is best known as Leadbelly or Lead Belly"

Goodnight Irene
In The Pines
This one was redone by Nirvana at their unplugged show, both versions are awesome.
Classic blues songs! I like "Goodnight Irene" and "In the Pines" (the "In the Pines" link didn't work for me when I tried it, but I'm familiar with the song). I'm not a big fan of Nirvana, but I've heard several different artists perform "In the Pines." Dolly Parton did a version of it that I kind of like. :) Good list!

"in the pines" is one of the loneliest, saddest songs I ever did hear, especially the leadbelly original. I also love the Nirvana version. They did it justice fo sho.

Here's to Cisco and Sonny and Leadbelly too,
And to all the good people that traveled with you.
Here's to the hearts and the hands of the men,
That come with the dust and are gone with the wind.
- Bob Dylan
I believe I was a senior in high school, around 1962, in my "young folksinger beatnik" days the first time I ever heard of Leadbelly in Dylans "Song to Woody" on his debut album. The verse above sent me off to the record store and into one of the booths (remember those) with Woodie Guthrie, Cisco Houston, and Leadbelly. Ive loved them since. But raant, who was Sonny?
