Introduction
These are probably the best songs of all time.
1
Orange Juice - Falling and Laughing
Because I'm sorry, it's just gorgeous. I'm talking about the Postcard records version, the cheap production, the understated music mixing in with Edwyn's amazing vocals. When he sings 'Fa-fa-fa-falling and laughing!' you just want to sing along and end the song by hugging him. It's glorious.

Sonic Youth - Teen Age Riot
Because, ugh, it's amazing. I know it's like, the song that people who don't like Sonic Youth like. I don't really care, and I'm not a massive fan of anything else by T'Youth, so that's probably it. But mm, this is so great. It has that long intro and then the song really kicks in and the lyrics are good and the vocals are good and the guitar is good and together it's not just good, it's fucking brilliant. it's a bit of an anthem, but who cares? Do you?!

Los Campesinos! - You! Me! Dancing!
I! Think! That! Most! Songs! Could! Be! Improved! By! Superfluous! Exclamation! Marks! And! As! This! Song! Is! Awesome! Anyway! It! Just! Becomes! More! Awesome!

Bow Wow Wow - I Want Candy
We don't talk about the stupid covers of this song that really miss the point of it - the percussion, the amazingness. It's not a smooth pop classic. It starts with those drumms and then moves on and builds up and when Amelia finally jumps in with "I know a guy who's tough but sweet..." you've probably heard some of the best bits already. It's amazing.

Aztec Camera - Just Like Gold
This was Roddy Frame's debut single, under the name 'Aztec Camera'. Another of the Postcard record lot, he was only seventeen when he put this out (I think) - my age. it's really good anyway, whatever his age was, and he has one of the most gorgeous voices ever. Try not to feel affirmed by this glorious song, try not to smile when he sings "it's there until that golddust slips away'. I bet you can't.

Patrick Wolf - Accident & Emergency
The other day my Dad called for me to come downstairs, quickly, because Patrick Wolf's Glastonbury set was on the red-button bit of BBC2. He was singing this song. The intro is, I am convinced, one of the best intros to any song, ever. The chorus isn't exactly bad, either.

Billy Bragg - Waiting For The Great Leap Forwards
Try not singing along to this, metaphorical fist in the air, metaphorical heart in your throat. You're not having as much fun as I am.
adding a couple of these to my "songs to download" list. thanks!
