Introduction
Ah the 90's. The Internet makes its debut. Bill Clinton is in
office. And the best damn soundtrack of our lives. Here are the best
and most forgotten grunge bands.
1
Nirvana
When Cobain and Co. entered the music scene from Seattle, nothing was
really the same again. Nirvana's seamless blend of grunge, noise, and
hooky melody made them irresisitable. Nevermind cemented their place
in music of the 90s. My Mom enjoying and owning their Unplugged CD
cemented their place in music history.

Pearl Jam
Still going after all these years…Pearl Jam hasn't slowed down. One
of the best grunge bands of their day, they broke out with the tune
"Even Flow." Their cameo in the movie "Singles" reassures us that
Pearl Jam will forever be linked to the early 90s.

Smashing Pumpkins
Hailing from Chicago, the Pumpkins had a larger, more grandiose sound
than its Seatlle compatriots. They broke out with "Today." They
landed another hit with "Tonight, Tonight." My friend Chris was
always waiting for them to release a song called "Tomorrow, Tomorrow,
Tomorrow." Never happened.

Soundgarden
Although they'd been around for a while, Soundgarden really earned
their place among the Seattle grunge luminaries on account of their
album Superunknown. Supplementing their records, their video for
Black Hole Sun was frighteningly memorable. I think it gave me
nightmares.

Collective Soul
Okay, they were basically one-hit wonders. But who cares. They were
the best of the lesser known grunge acts to make it. "Runaway Train"
is forever burned in everyone's memories, no? At least the video is….

Hole
Courtney Love was the queen –and the only female—to bring angst to the
grunge movement. Songs like Doll Parts played in heavy rotation. Who
can forget the day that Kurt Cobain killed himself, and on MTV she
made her statement. The day the music died.
