Introduction
movies I saw in August in Knoxville, TN
(not in chronological order)
1
The Bourne Ultimatum
awesome. better than the 2nd installment. great in every way with the exception of the
development of Julia Stiles's character, Nikki. No one takes Franka Potente's place-ever!

2
The Simpsons Movie
funny, but not as funny as I thought it would be. I think I was secretly hoping to hear the "Monorail!" song again...
3
Becoming Jane
good. I have been following James McAvoy since "The Chronicles of Narnia" and look forward to his role in "Atonement" based on Ian McEwan's novel. Anne Hathaway was good too, but, well, I just couldn't let go of the "fictionalized" approach to the story. Sometimes, like with the Die Hard movies-which I love and own on dvd-you just have to unclench and go along for the ride. I just couldn't jump on that carriage this time.
4
Sunshine
I liked this movie, although it made me think towards the end that I was stupid because I got lost and didn't know what the hell was going on. My friend Van told me that I wasn't stupid, that the writing was bad and that no one really knew what was going on. But I totally heart Cillian Murphy and Alex Garland anyway.
5
Eagle vs. Shark
this was pretty funny and yes, quirky in that you-know-who sort of way where an outsider totally wins you over despite resembling the sort of person who my Dad would ask you not to "encourage" if he were to approach you on the street.
I did flinch a bit everytime Loren Horseley performed her lip aerobics, but Jemaine Clement more than made up for it.

Death at a Funeral
this was a delight. the whole cast was great, but I went principally for my love of Alan Tudyk and the alarm I felt at how different Matthew Macfadyen looked from his appearance in the most recent version of "Pride & Prejudice" starring, Acting-While-Beautiful-Keira-Knightley.
Hilarious and well-written, the only downer was the group of Red Hattish ladies sitting in the rear of the auditorium howling mawkishly at every other line to the point where you couldn't hear simple dialogue between the funny bits. This happened to me when I saw "My Big, Fat, greek Wedding". It was funny. But not THAT funny.
