Introduction
As you can see I am most interested in the pre 80's war movies.
Where Eagles Dare
Clint Eastwood infiltrates a nazi fortress in the mountains
Kellys Heroes
Mr Eastwood again. Maybe this should be an Eastwood list.
Patton
Judgement at Nuremberg
Paths of Glory
uh oh WW1 but who cares?
When Trumpets Fade
This movie is pretty intense.
Das Boot
The most kick ass submarine movie ever
All Quiet on the Western Front
The book is better
Downfall
By far the best recent WW2 movie
Letters from Iwo Jima
I thought Flags of our Fathers was pretty good till I saw this one.
Tora! Tora! Tora!
Seriously one of the greatest epics ever. Plus historically accurate and without the stupid love sub plot of "Pearl Harbour"
Guns of Navarone
classic
Sands of Iwo Jima
Cant stand John Wayne but this is also a classic
Below
This is a really scary submarine classic
Hell in the Pacific
The Young Lions
Marlon brando plays a Nazi officer and Montgomery Clift and Dean Martin co-star as Americans
Bridge on the River Kwai
This is actually one of my favorites starring William Holden and Alec Guiness
Days of Glory (Indigenes)
This is my new favorite WW2 movie. Everyone needs to go out and get this. Colonized French Algerians are recruited to rescue their "fatherland" (France) from Nazi occupation but end up facing extreme prejudice. Great characters and story and really beautifully done.
i'm impressed!

Kelly's Heroes - a family favorite. Ya gotta love Oddball, "Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?" Donald Sutherland is great. Good List. Five stars.

The Longest Day? That scene with Red Buttons hanging off of the steep roof by his parachute gets me every time. Just now finished Letters from Iwo Jima. I agree it's better than the Flags movie, but not as good as the Flags book. It is a must read.

Just saw Letters From Iwo Jima.
It is the first time I have seen a war movie made from the "view of the other side." And it portrayed both sides with young men who ran the gamet of emotions - some heros, some cowards, some brutal, some merciful, all sharing the misfortune of their youth falling in the middle of a world war.
I thought it was an excellent movie.
Made my day.

Hey KB, Try Tora!Tora!Tora! it also shows both sides of WW2 although it is not nearly as emotional as Letters it is still interesting to see how they attempt to equally prtray both sides as Clint did very well in Flags and Letters.

Nick, I will look for Tora!Tora!Tora! Just as a note of interest one of my Tuesday coffee group buddies is 82 year-old Carlos who was captured during the Battle of the Bulge and a POW from Christmas '44 until Easter Day '45. He has shared many stories with us.
