Introduction
Now that the title of the new Indiana Jones film has been revealed (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - I can picture the Universal Studios theme ride right now...) and Harrison Ford is eligible for retirement (65 years old), I think it's time to pay tribute to his lesser-known awesome films.
No whips, no lightsabers, no submarines: just great films and some rockin' acting from my favorite scoundrel.
1
American Graffiti (1973)
The quintessential American coming-of-age film, directed by George Lucas. No stormtroopers. Harrison Ford as a dashing young man.
2
The Conversation (1974)
Ford has a bit role in this, but it's such a great film you should see it anyway. It's a reminder of why Gene Hackman used to be such a badass, before he started doing Lowe's commercials. Francis Ford Coppola directed.
3
Apocalypse Now (1979)
Duh.
4
Blade Runner (1982)
Ridley Scott's masterpiece is one of the greatest sci-fi AND noir films ever made. Harrison Ford gives a completely rad performance.
5
Witness (1985)
Ford is a city cop who has to protect a child witness. And get in the pants of an Amish woman. It doesn't get any better than this.
6
The Mosquito Coast (1986)
It doesn't get any better than this for a Ford performance: he goes all unhinged and crazy kablooey as an obsessed inventor who drags his family to Central America to build an ice factory. An ice factory? Of course!
7
Frantic (1988)
I think a lot of people hated this movie, but I loved it. It's a fancypants European thriller.
8
Presumed Innocent (1990)
The first in a minor subgenre of Ford's career: "Is he a misunderstood good husband or a REALLY BAD husband?"
9
The Fugitive (1993)
Harrison Ford: all charisma, all the time.
I liked him in Sabrina. Of course this film wasn't as great as the original; but he was good as the responsible brother.

I am a Harrison Ford fan - even if he is getting a little long in the tooth. He was great in The Fugitive.
