Introduction
A list of modern sci-fi movies. An older sci-fi list will come later.
1
2001
I bet kids today think this is boring. They’re wrong.
2
Blade Runner
Best ever, Based on Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, by Philip K. Dick, best science fiction writer.
3
Brazil
Sort of like a satirical version of Blade Runner. Epic and possibly the most visually-creative movie ever made.
4
Minority Report
Tom Cruise bugs me, but this has enough PK Dick to save it, precogs and all.
5
Star Trek: First Contact
Probably sacrilege to some Trekkie out there, but this is the best. It’s got time travel and the Borg.
6
The Matrix
I don’t really even like this movie, but it’s such a phenomenon, it has to be listed here. Problems such as: the bad guy survives when he’s pushed in front of a subway, so why are you kicking him? Avoid 2 and 3.
7
Star Wars
The basis of my childhood. The first and the second. The prequels should be set on fire.
8
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
There should be more movies about UFOs.
9
Independence Day
Speaking of which. A masterpiece of crap.
10
Aliens
I like Aliens more than Alien because it has more aliens.
11
The Road Warrior
Best apocalypse movie.
12
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Watch the first Terminator lately? Looks really dated.
13
The Thing
Best line in a movie: “You have to be f…cking kidding me” when he sees the insane spider-creature.
14
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
Donald Sutherland version. Mostly for the dog with a man’s face.
15
Donnie Darko
Makes you think.
16
The Man Who Fell to Earth
David Bowie, Low-era.
