Introduction
There's not much I want to remember about the 80s, but the horror movies were the best. Who cared about the stories or plot lines, we all went to watch the bad guys. And what wonderful bad guys they were. Don't get me wrong, there are memorable slashers from other decades too. I haven't forgotten them.
1
Pinhead
My very favorite horror series is Hellraiser. Sure they all went straight to video after the third movie, but who could resist the dead-pan charm of Pinhead. Always dressed in cutting-edge leather and latex, he is a guy after my own heart. Add a little sex in with the bloody violence, and you have a winning movie theme.

2
Freddy Kreuger
No one had more wit than the blade-fingered Freddy Kreuger. He had a crafty one-liner for any occasion and was one of the few killers who made you laugh even when you were keeping your eyes covered. Both gory and creative, the entire Nightmare on Elm Street series was scary as hell.

3
Jason Voorhees
Not much of a talker, that Jason. Even so, he could put chills into even the hardiest of movie watcher with his slow shuffling gait and easy swinging machete. I do think that both Jason and Michael Myers were brothers in another life time. What a scary pair.

4
Michael Myers
Actually, I think Michael and Jason are pretty much tied in my list here. Silent killers in masks, I can never remember which one is which. I see there is yet another Halloween movie coming out soon. Can't wait to see the updated version of this slasher classic.

5
Chucky
The Child's Play movies didn't stretch out to the same number of sequels as the movies already listed, but the wise-cracking doll possessed with the soul of a killer just lights up the screen. Not to mention that he is the only psychotic slasher killer to ever get himself hitched. Lucky guy.

6
Leatherface
Anyone wielding a chainsaw can be scary, but add a mask made of human skin and you have one serious freak. Though he is only one in sizable cast of other killers and weirdos in these movies. Whether you're a fan of the original, the sequel or the prequel, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre was an awesome flick.

7
Norman Bates
Moving past the supernatural slashers, you can't forget Norman Bates in Psycho. You actually feel sorry for the poor, troubled man. The shower scene is one of the best known horror scenes, even though it's no where near as gory as movies to come later. That's what makes us squirm. The whole movie is a psychological fear-fest.

8
Hannibal Lector
My final fav slasher, best known for his deep thoughts and well-mannered behaviour. A little unusual for a killer, and possibly why he's such a great character. Ironically, he wasn't the central killer in Silence of the Lambs, but he sure made up for that in the sequels.

Deadly list! Great choices... all of the great hackers are represented!
Worst slashers: the Scream dude and the I know what you did last summer dude (can't remember names...don't care enough to google em') HORRIBLE slashers.... and bad movies.

Great list. I agree that Pinhead is the class of the field.
