Introduction
This is a continuation of a previous list. Please be aware that this isn't opinion but fact.
12. The Searchers

One of the best westerns, and believed to be the best John Wayne western. Very good story with a lot of depth. Still looks great and holds up nicely. In the 10 years, since the original list this moved from 96 to 12. I don't know why other than maybe westerns are starting to get there due. This is very recommended viewing.
13. Star Wars

Not the best of the original trilogy, that would be Empire, but the film that is most responsible for changing the mindset of Hollywood. Good or Bad. As a movie, should be lower as a cultural force this would be first. No film experience brought greater joy to me as a child.
14. Psycho

This is still a good movie. When Gus Van Sant did the remake and shot it exactly like the original it was still good. Anthony Perkins can play weirdos very well. Watch it if you haven't seen it.
15. 2001: A Space Odyssey

This is a movie that still looks great but is way to slow and quiet for today's audience. While I would highly rate any film by Kubrick, I like others better. HAL 9000 is a very good villain and the scenes with him and the astronauts are still well done. I have heard that this was a very popular movie to take mushrooms before. I haven't tried it but the minutes of color just washing across the screen had to have something to do with it. The idea of using classical music while showing these very graceful machines is still beautiful. I would highly recommend this film as I would recommend all of Kubrick's work.
16. Sunset Boulevard

This is one of the great "film noir"s and it stars the extremely underrated William Holden. The story is great and Norma Desmond is extremely frightening. I think this movie is better appreciated today because our culture loves to watch old celebrities freak out. Tom Sizemore, Danny Bonaduce and others are the Norma Desmond's of today. I am glad this is moving up because it is one of my favorite older films.
17. The Graduate

This is the first movie we had to watch in film class when I was in college. It still holds up and is still funny. If made today though the film would probably be much raunchier. This greatest comment I can make is that the US Army made a commercial based upon the "plastics" scene. This ad looked exactly like the movie; even the actor looked like Dustin Hoffman. I just can't see Dustin's character being much of a joiner. He seemed a bit of a loner. I think most baby boomers were followers first and individuals second. I am sure they believed they would act like Dustin's character but I think they would have fallen in line and just gotten a job with their father's company and been a lot nicer to Elaine and ended up marrying her. I mean Katherine Ross was very attractive, just ask Sam Elliott.
18. The General

Huh?!! I get that Buster Keaton was important, but most of stuff has been copied by that great screen comic Jackie Chan. No one will watch this. I love when the industry tells you how funny something is and you know that they have never watched it. I did like Buster Keaton in his last role in "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum". I am betting that movie is funnier, plus it has Phil Silvers.
19. On the Waterfront

This is still a very good drama. Brando is excellent and so is Karl Malden. The story is still rather topical. My only memory of this movie is that I took an acting class in college and we had to act out a movie scene. This 72 year old woman in my class did the famous "Contender" speech. It was absolutely hilarious, even though our acting teacher talked about how great she was. I mean it was really funny. Go see this, it is a good movie.
20. It's A Wonderful Life

How is this not higher. Everyone loves this movie and the plot device of showing how important one single life is; is awesome. This movie should be shown to just about every 5th grade class. It is a very honest portrayal of the American Dream and the flipside of that dream. I suspect people today would side with Mr. Potter. The best thing about this movie is that SNL did a skit in the 80's with the alternate ending where George Bailey goes to Mr. Potter's house on Christmas Eve and kicks his ass. By the way, Donna Reed was quite the looker in her day and the dude who played Alfalfa in "Our Gang" pulls the lever that opens the pool. He was murdered right after this film came out.
