Introduction

just a place to store things that have popped up on my radar. Personal trends if you will...

1

Terry Theise Catalogs

www.skurnikwines.com/msw/theise_catalogs.html

Terry is perhaps the world's foremost champion of Austrian and German wines. His writing about the subject is out of this world as it veers from science to metphysics to hedonism to literature to global warming to whatever else. These are freaking catalogs and I look forward to the day the are released.

"at the very least it reminds you the knowledge isn't so much linear as circular, and much of what one dresses up as "knowledge" is merely time and inference"

Green figs

www.nafex.org/figs.htm

We got some this week from our CSA box. I like figs in general but these are a bit different. There is an ever so tiny tiny slight bitterness or maybe green taste from the skin. Yummy.

Fela Kuti

www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxVy4FS46r0&mode=related&…

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fela_Kuti

this guy is like the missing link of music. He's like Bob Marley. He's like Jimi. I'm not exaggerating. I can't believe I didn't know this guy before. Unbelievable!!

Read his story on the wikipedia link above while listening to the youtube video. its out of control.

sahale snack mix

sahalesnacks.com/aboutUs.asp

These things are ridiculously good and expensive! Its like a sophisticated bar snack with uber creative flavors. The "Sing Buri" is lemon grass, soy glazed cashews, pinapple, peanut, and sesame seeds dusted with mild chinese chili. The "Ksar" is pistachios, sesame seeds, pepiptas, figs, honey, and Moroccan harissa.

I love these things. Great with cocktails or beer. Worth the price! Trust me.

Loire Valley Wines

www.thewinedoctor.com/regionalguides/loire.shtml

This whole region for me is just hitting the right spots. Love the vouvrays, sancerre, saviennieres, chinon, samur, muscadet. It's all good. Great prices too. There are number of way above average vintages to choose from on the market now. 2002, 2004, 2005 were all superior but different years.

Favorite producers: Domaines de Baumard, Joguet, Chidaine

Toyota Yaris

www.toyota.com/yaris/

www.youtube.com/watch?v=skhaeXwfh3s&eurl

I don't want my Prius to get jealous or anything, but I really like these little guys. Toyota's design team is to be admired. How do they consistently get it right when so many others consistently get it wrong?

And totally unrelated to the actual quality of the car, i love the billboards with the owl. They're awesome!

maybe they should have a pirate in their ads though. YARRRRis!

Unity '08

www.unity08.com

I've long been turned off by our two party system in America. It tends to lead to thinking that is polar instead of collaborative. There are great people in both parties but I often feel like their hamstrung. Partisan politics sucks. What's needed is a truly viable third party to change the balance the power and opinion.

That and some serious changes in campaign financing.

Terra Firma Farms

www.flickr.com/photos/haonusa/sets/72157600294740…

We've been participating in this thing called a CSA for the past few months. CSA stands for community supported agriculture. We pay a monthly subscription fee of $88 and each week Terra Firma Farms delivers a box of organic fruits and veggies to drop-off points all over SF. You never really know what you are getting until the day before but its all "of the moment" and organically and sustainably produced. It's really cool to get this box of stuff and then figure out what to do with it. You also really get in tune with what's seasonal. Check out my pictures by clicking the link above.

Honest Tea

www.honesttea.com/Index.php

I really like tea but most of the shit you get in a bottle is pretty disgusting. It's more like soda disguised as tea. There are some exceptions and Honest Teas are one of them. They have some great flavors like Moroccan mint, Green w/ a touch of maltese orange. They are all organic.

Just a tad sweet.

Hump de Bump (the song but especially the video)

www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdH987JJDYs

This block party video kills it. funny and funky. this sort of attitude sums up why I like RHCP

The Cinematics

www.thecinematics.com/

Saw them open for someone still loves you boris yeltsin in San Francisco. To me the sounds like a blend of Franz Ferdiand, Bloc Party, and that can sound like Buckley. For real. There is a bonus great track called "Home" that is acoustic and sounds like dead ringer for Buckley

Musicovery.com

www.musicovery.com

found this through stubleupon.com. it's pretty cool internet radio where you pick your genre and mood. The mood grid has four axis ranging from Energetic-Calm, Dark-Positive. Just click you mouse anywhere and you'll be off. The second cool and different thing is that you visually see a universe of songs in front of you. You can jump to new songs or switch you mood at anytime. Otherwise musicovery just keeps the tunes coming. Great way to find new and rediscover old songs.

Highly recommended!

Unity 08 - I heard Sam Waterston talking about this and meant to check it out. Thanks for the reminder and the link.

Don't know much about Unity 08, but I agree about partisan politics. One party gets elected and for four years the other tries to discredit and ruin the one in power rather than caring a wit what is best for our country or its people, then we start the campaigning two years before we elect the next leader and when they are elected it starts all over again.

So weird; I am at work and just ate some Sahale Soledad (almond, date, flax seed, balsamic vinegar, red pepper). I just discovered them at Target a few weeks ago and love them! The CSA also sounds really interesting.
