Introduction

Abnormal growth. Tallness. The feeling of being out of place. Taller people feel this everyday and can be overlooked or underlooked perhaps.

Ella Ewing "A Towering Spirit"

Once the tallest woman in the world, Ella Ewing is remembered today as much for her kind heart as her 8-foot, 4-inch height. Few events were more memorable at the dawn of the 20th century than seeing elephants, trapeze artists and clowns when the circus came to town. But for many, the most amazing sight at the circus was often a gentle woman from tiny Gorin, Mo.

Wadlow came to our small town (Houston MO) in the 1940s.
He was advertising for Peters Shoe Co. whose brand was sold in the local department store.
He wore size 37 shoe. Each shoe weighed 4 pounds and was 19 inches long.

There are many people around here who remember him.

You might want to add Ella Ewing from Missouri and post her picture. I wish she could have met Wadlow. (see ULR)
