What I want to be when I grow up

Introduction

Some of these I actually explored a few years back when I decided Corporate America was not the right place for me.

1

Ironman

Yeah, if I was good enough to compete professionally, I would. I'd like nothing more than to swap stories with Dean Karnazes. He is my hero.
2

Pastry Chef

While living in SF, I became obsessed with this idea. I ended up flying to NY for an interview and tour of the French Culinary Institute in Manhattan. Then my dad, the restaurateur, whacked some sense into me.
3

Speech Pathologist

I had visions of working with children with speech impairments. I looked into Masters programs in DC and realized that I'd be starting at the very bottom with pre-requisites I didn't have from college. Ho-hum.

Child Life Specialist

This person helps kids with serious illnesses that have to leave their homes to live in hospitals (for long stays with painful treatments) cope with being away from home and adapt to living w/out their parents. Focus is on psychological adjustment as well as making sure they're receiving education and having fun.

Nanotechnologist

From an article in Time magazine, 2000 "Fifteen years from now, your doctor will hand you a capsule packed with million of nanosensors, each programmed to seek out and kill cancer cells in your body. One day, autonomous "Nanobots" far smaller than motes of dust will patrol the body, repairing aging organs and fixing genetic damage before if can turn into disease" Fascinating! Too bad the brains in my family went to my cousin.

Tea Room owner

For those of you who have been to Lovejoy's in SF, you know why I wanted to run my own tea room. Honestly, not a whole lot of operating costs and SF has the perfect weather for it.

Frankly there's still time! Especially for a go getter like you.

Go for it! I'd add tree surgeon, expatriate poet, epidemiologist and dolphin trainer.

Have you been to CakeLove in DC (or they have another location in Rockville or somewhere in MD)? It's on my DC food list, but it was started by an attorney who wanted to do something else. I've not been, but everyone I know who's been raves about the cupcakes.
