Introduction

It’s a little bit strange to call out sick from work when you’re actually sick. At least for me. But when it happens, it sure ain’t fun….here are some things to do when a nasty cold keeps you at home.

1

Watch A Soap Opera You’ve Never Seen and Let Yourself Get Into It

Who’s Susan? Who’s Richard? Why is she cheating on him when he’s so much better for her than that nasty pig who’s already cheating on her best friend’s sister??!! Who cares!! But if you’re suck, you might as well pretend, even for just a few days, to engross yourself in a world you never enter.

Reorganize Photos

You’ve got about a thousand pictures in a closet. And a million on your hard drive. Now is a perfect time to let yourself get nostalgic while you get organized.
3

Cook A Soup...not for your soul

Chicken soup is always recommended. But now is the time to wrap a blanket around yourself, and try making any soup you can think of. Vegetable, bean, tomato, or snozberry will do. And afterwards, you’ll make your body feel much, much better.

Rent Videos Of Stand-Up Comedy

Laughter absolutely is the best medicine. Whoever your favorite comic is: Carlin, Dangerfield, Pryor or Carrot Top---get some of their videos, drink some tea, and let the laughter do the rest.
5

Listen To The Radio

Just because you’ve got an extra 8 hours to kill today doesn’t necessarily mean you need a TV. Now is the perfect time to reconnect to the oft-forgotten world of fantastic radio. Here storytelling at its best on many NPR stations, or check out the myriad of podcasts that are out there.

Draw, Paint, Sculpt, Make

Maybe it’s been a while since you let your imagination free. Get some paper, some pencils, some paint, WHATEVER is laying around the house and let the creativity flow. Just for a day. Not only will it feel great, it might make you better. Ever hear of art therapy?
7

SLEEP!

Obvious. Sleep. Lots. Sleep like its your job. Sleep until in your dreams you’re sleeping and dreaming of a really deep sleep.
8

Don't Do Laundry

Maybe you feel guilty about sitting at home and not doing something “productive.” Nonsense. DO NOT DO LAUNDRY on your day off if you’re sick. It’ll just keep you from doing any of the above mentioned activities. Enjoy!

Great list! Of course, ANY list which tells me I don't have to do the laundry is great in my book. :)

Make your bed, fix a tray of foodstuff, fluff the couch up with many pillows and cozy-in to read a great book all day.
Almost makes me want to be sick....almost.

I always feel so bad when I call in sick that I have to act sick, no household chores, etc. If I'm well enough to do household chores or anything else productive, I'm well enough to go to work. And a family rule; if you are sick you stay in the house - no running to the store or other outside stuff. This is a left over from the kids, "I feel better now, can I go out and play?"

when I was a kid and stayed home, my Dad would put me in the middle of my parents' bed and I would watch "The Last Unicorn" and "Watership Down" while he made me Chicken & Dumplings. I'd be all Vicks' Vapor Rubbed out and in my brother's secondhand pajamas. It was the best.
