Introduction

This past Friday the newest in Fox's Idol repertoire was introduced. Instead of looking to crown an individual recording star or dancer, the show is looking for the Next Great American Band. Here's why this one will probably succeed just as the others do.

1

Idol Franchise

This speaks for itself. It's golden, and in many respects untouchable.

Different Genres of Music

Because the need to find people that can sing and play music and be entertaining, it's a different genre of music. It gets away from the Whitney/Mariah/Christina music that we're all oh so tired of after watching American Idol.

Good Host

Dominic Bowmen referred to himself as the New Zealand Ryan Seacrest, and he was. Just a nice, affable guy ... with a great accent.

It Puts Sheila E. To Work

C'mon, where's she been? She needed a good gig.

John Rzeznik

Okay, how can you go wrong with him? He's knowledgeable about music, hot, and doesn't call anyone Dawg.

Dicko

Definitely not the best nickname, but it's one that's meant for headlines.

No Painful Weeks of Auditions

Instead of having us sit through three weeks of painful auditions, and another week of semi-finals, we got it all wrapped up in one week, and start with final 12 next week.

12 and 13 Year Old Rockers

They're actually good!
