Introduction
Thought I would pass along these tips to those of you who are interested in green cleaning or just in providing nontoxic play things for your children. So much cheaper and healthier to just use baking soda for everything. Plus, it is simple to recycle the little cardboard box!
1
All-Purpose Cleaner
Dissolve 4 tablespoons of baking soda in 1 quart of warm water for a general cleaner. Or use backing soda on a damp sponge. Baking soda will clean and deodorize all kitchen and bathroom surfaces.
2
Antacid
Add 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda to a glass of water and take with an aspirin to avoid indigestion.
3
Dishwasher Powder
Mix 2 tablespoons baking soda with 2 tablespoons borax
4
Arts and Crafts
Create nontoxic pastes with baking soda and water, add food coloring. Apply paste with a sponge using stencils. Can be used on windows, paper, etc.
Mix a small amount of baking soda into childrens tempera paints to make cleanup easier.

5
Baby Tips
Soak bottles, nipples and rims overnight in a large bowl filled with hot water and 1/2 box baking soda. Or boil the bottles for 3 minutes in 3 tablespoons baking soda and water.
6
Baby Tips
When a baby spits up on your shirt, wipe up excess then sprinkle the spot with baking soda. Let it dry and brush it off. Odor is gone and the stain doesn't set.
7
Baby Tips
Wash new baby clothes to remove any chemical finishes by washing them in mild soap and 1/2 cup baking soda.
8
Stuffed animals
Clean stuffed animals or fabric toys that can't be washed by shaking in a bag with baking soda which will absorb the dirt and grime. Let it sit for 15 minutes before brushing, shaking and/or vacuuming off the dry baking soda.
9
Diaper Rash
Fight diaper rash by sprinkling a little baking soda in warm water - NOT alone as a powder - for cleaning baby's bottom areas. The baking soda soothes and helps diaper rash heal by neutralizing the acid from urine.
10
Carpet Deodorizer
Sprinkle on carpet and wait 15 minutes or over night. Vacuum.
11
Fresh Fruit and Veggies
Clean dirt and residue off fruit and veggies by sprinkling baking soda on a wet sponge and scrubbing. Or wash them in a bowl full of cool water with 2-3 tablespoons of baking soda.
12
Kitchen Drains
Weekly put some vinegar and baking soda down your drain to break down fat and keep your drain smelling fresh.
13
Drain Opener
Pour 1/2 cup baking soda down the drain and add a 1/2 cup white vinegar. Cover the drain if possible. Let stand for a few minutes then pour a kettle of bowling water down the drain to flush it. (Do not use this method after any commercial drain opener has been used.)
14
Floors
Vinegar can be used to clean most floors and to remove gum, but to remove black heel marks, make a baking soda paste with water and scrub the mark. (I might have to start a new list for vinegar. Let me know if you want it.)
15
Stains on plastics
Get rid of spaghetti or catsup stains by sprinkling with baking sod and rubbing with a damp cloth, then rinse clean.
16
De-Icer
Sprinkle baking soda on your front steps to provide traction and melt ice. It won't damage outside surfaces or inside ones when it gets tracked in the house. Mix with sand if you need more texture.
17
Laundry
1/4 to 1/2 baking soda per wash load makes clothes feel soft and smell fresh.
(Can't pass this up even though it is for vinegar - to remove smoky odors from clothes, maybe you can't do laundry, fill your bathtub with hot water and add 1 cup white vinegar. Hang clothes above the steaming bath water.)

18
Gardening
Sprinkle baking soda lightly on soil around tomato plants. It sweetens tomatoes by lowering their acidity and discourages pests. Sprinkle around flower beds, it discourages rabbits from nibbling.
19
Organic Pesticide
Combine 1 teaspoon baking soda and 1/3 cup cooking oil. Combine 2 teaspoons of this mixture with 1 cup water and fill plant sprayer. This will kill ahids, spider mites and white flies, but is benign to beneficial insects (so someone says).
20
Kill Weeds
Sprinkle on sidwalk cracks and sweep into the cracks.
21
Cut Flowers
Dip cut flowers in a solution of baking soda and water to exten their life.
22
Stains
Make a thick paste of 4 tablespoons of more of baking soda and 1/4 cup warm water. Rub the paste on the spot.
23
Toilet Cleaner
Sprinkle baking soda into the bowl then drizzle with vinegar and scour with a toilet brush. Do not mix with bleach, ammonia or toilet bowl cleaner.
24
Ring Around the Tub
Add 2 tablespoons of baking soda to your bath water and you won't have to worry about it.
25
Cut Glass
Sprinkle baking soda on a damp rag and clean glass. Rinse with clean water and polish with a soft cloth.
is this for REAL?? amazing.
