brian and sara's visit - all about the food

the mission has the world's best burritos. i scarfed a gigantic al pastor burrito. later into the dinner, a two-inch cockroach joined us. somehow, he happened to fit right in with the ambiance and not gross us out. well. maybe a little.

this gorgeous resort is nestled in the napa hills off the silverado trail. i rigged the lunch so that noah ordered the pizza i wanted (duck confit with caramelized onions and arugula), sara got plenty of fries with her burger so she could share, and i got my pesto chicken panini with a white bean and bacon salad. happy times.

we arrived in sonoma, checked in to our hotel and sauntered across the street. we started with an amazing cheese course with olives and figs. i had coq au vin, noah and brian had the steak and sara had scallops. the wine was delicious....cline mourvedre and core "elevation sensation". we were all very pleased.

all four of us ordered pecan waffles with cinnamon butter and maple syrup.

best meal of the trip, hands down. by this point, we have food and wine oozing out of our pores from our prior meals, but that didn't stop us from ordering a feast. we got crispy imperial rolls, vietnamese crepes, spare ribs, shaking beef, tiger prawns, a chicken clay pot and creme brulee. everything was perfect and enjoyed from the best booth in the house, overlooking the bay and bay bridge. heaven.

at this point, we were completely sick in the head for taking on another full on meal, but we had no choice. our time was running out and we had to do pizzeria defina. noah even took to skipping and running around the block in order to work up an appetite. we waited for our table by having drinks at the 500 club. once seated, we had insalata tricolore, some kind of eel, a margarita pizza, broccoli rabe pizza and the salciccia pizza.

after pizzeria delfina and before taking brian and sara to the airport, we had ice cream from bi-rite creamery. after our meal at pizzeria delfina, bi-rite was closing (it was one minute past eleven), but our noble noah literally ran down the street, busted through a locked door, and delivered roasted butter pecan and honey lavender ice cream for all of us. i love him.
