1
Cranberries vs. Urinary Tract Infection
Drinking cranberry juice reduces urinary tract infections in women reports a British analysis of 10 studies. Recommended dose: a glass of juice twice daily. Undecided - whether cranberry capsules or tablets are effective.

2
Oatmeal vs. Cholesterol
A new review by Kentucky University researcher James Anderson M.D. states proof is stronger than ever that eating whole grain oatmeal not only cuts total and "bad" cholesterol but lowers risk for high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and weight gain.

3
Soybeans vs. Hot Flashes
A study by Harvard's George Blackburn M.D. finds a compound in soybeans slashed the frequency of hot flashes by 52% in a group of menopausal women. The study used a soy extract called Aglymax.

4
Fish Oil vs. Brain Damage
Much evidence shows that Omega-3 fish oil, especially its DHA component, protects brain cells. In a new UCLA study, DHA helps prevent damage that leads to the onset of Alzheimer's.

5
Legumes vs. Diabetes
Eating more legumes (peanuts, dried beans - especially soybeans) may cut the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by more than 40% says a Vanderbilt study of 64,000 middle age Chinese women. Possible reason? All legumes suppress spikes in blood sugar.

Great info. Now I just need soy bean M & Ms and I will be in great shape.

That legumes picture is quite colorful. It would make a good jigsaw puzzle photo--probably drive you "NUTS" to work it. When you finished it, you could say "Bean there, done that!" and "Cool Beans!" :-D
All nuttiness aside, great list, Kathybelle! This is very useful information.
