Introduction
Let me just preface that I am not complaining. At least I have a job I love that allows me to pay the following bills. I could simplify my life "bill-wise", but it would also simplify my life in "Emily Dickinson-wise"...and I have enough strikes against me already! I am sure that I am not the only one who gets their paycheck and realizes that most of it is already spent.
1
Rent
low, especially comparing to major metropolis's; but still a little under 1/2 a paycheck
2
Student Loans
assbags. It will take me years to pay off my BA and MLS.
3
Cingular
It does make life easier when you are lost in New Haven, CT, but it is a royal pain in the hootenanny. thee douchebots can do whatever they want and they know I will end up paying the bill. 'cause I am a sucker.
4
Comcast
our form of cable. I have the "middle-man" package, which is not so bad, but it seems like a helluva lot when you think about it on a yearly basis. Although, thanks to 'Ol Hippie, that might change soon.
5
Car payment/Insurance
I was in a wreck last November and had to find a new (new-to-me) car. The payments and the raised insurance are what I would be saving to pay my student loans, buy decent gifts for my family, and take a much needed vacation.
6
Netflix
bastards. I would cancel this but it is only about 12 bucks a month and they get things I can't find at the library (through ILL) or at the rental store. It is worth it. But again, I am griping about it, so...
7
utilities/KUB
I just moved to a place that should be more affordable. but I lived in a house that was poorly insulated and cost a shitload to heat in the winter. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this winter will be more efficient.
Factor a couple of kids into this list and see where you are...

yeah, I know. It would be really hard with kids. I know I am lucky that I have a choice to have luxuries such as cable and a car; but it doesn't leave much to cover the other stuff that pops up, like clothing yourself, treating friends to lunch on their birthday, wedding presents, vet bills, dental work, etc. Everyone has a list like this.

Wow McGhee, imagine if you lived in San Francisco, New York, or Boston? Although you had to know when when you decided to become a librarian (just figured that out; thought MLS meant you sold real estate)that a Netjets account probably wasn't in your future.
A little factoid here; if you live on the east side of Knoxville, every time you flush your toilet, the pipe leads to the Eastbridge wastewater treatment facility, which I designed and sold to KUB, and we are currently expanding. Yeah, I knew you'd be thrilled.
