Introduction

The daughter is in a sorority whose mascot is a duck. They have a tradition where their members pass down ducks from one to another. She came home with a half a dozen garbage bags full of ducks. In order to store them better we purchased 6 large, stackable plastic tubs. She has recently been sorting and preparing for her own give away this fall. There are ducks all over our house; I didn't know there could be so many kinds of ducks...

Rubber

She has over filled a large plastic bucket with rubber duckys - big, small, with hats, green, in 'outfits', and so on. Glad to see that you are floating on little rubber guys.

Stuffed

OMG, there are bags, baskets, and even a tablecloth wrapped with a bow all over the house. Where do people come up with ideas for so many stuffed duck types - and a bigger question would be WHY? Again their are hats and outfits, and sizes and baby's and various colors and different amounts of fluffiness or stuffedness and ones that make noise, you get the idea. See ya duckies!

Porcelain

Sit around on furniture ducks, salt and pepper shakers, soap dishes, liquid dispensers, etc. All fragile so they must be wrapped with tissue; not just any tissue but the proper sorority color tissue. Be safe little guys...

Books

Ah, yes. Ducky books. Children's books. That is why we are spend a zillion dollars a year sending her to a private school, so she can revert to reading children's ducky books.

Who'd a thought it?

Miscellaneous ducks: a duck back rest for the bed; a duck with a loop on the top, you hang it and it bobs up and down and quacks; duck towels and pillows.

And these are just the ones I can see from my computer chair...

Maybe not so stupid

When she came home with all of these two years ago, I thought (and told her) that this was really getting out of hand. Keep in mind she is only one of several girls in each pledge class who is "receiving the gift" of all of these ducks. A half a dozen other families are also blessed. I suggested they consider donating them to a children's facility of some kind. She said, "MOM, this is tradition - you just don't understand!" Well, it is now her turn to lovingly package, wrap and otherwise prepare to "gift" her ducks to some other unsuspecting girl and her family. She gets to keep the ones that are her special favorite for one reason or another, but most of them will be moving on. Although Dad and I weren't happy to be storing all of these things, it made her happy to be the recipient of so many ducks and will most likely give joy to a new sorority member, so maybe it isn't so stupid...
