by charlotte brontë. had to read it in ap literature, and instantly fell in love with it.

by ernest hemingway. i find some of his books a little unreadable, but this one i love. the glamorous european lifestyles of chic expats in the '20s...who could resist?

by lauren weisberger. boss from hell in killer clothes. always entertaining. this was one of the first in the trend of books about assistants working in fashionable industries.

by louisa may alcott. how can you not love these four sisters and their wonderful mom? and let's not forget their ideal dreamboat...laurie.

by plum sykes. a guilty pleasure if there ever was one.

by jeffrey eugenides. shocking, but heartfelt. read this book.

by margaret mitchell. i have a fascination with the old south, and this classic is great to just get lost in.

by jacqueline susann. tragic, glamorous tale of drugs and sex is another guilty pleasure.

the first two by virginia woolf. the third by michael cunningham, partially about virginia woolf. the first two are inspiring and wonderfully written. i think all women, especially aspiring writers, should read everything she wrote. the third is so interesting, especially if you read it after you read mrs. dalloway.

by jane austen. her books are light and fun...the original chick lit. this is my favorite. emma is a somewhat clueless yet generous heroine.
