Sad but true facts...... :(

This is heartbreaking. Reading is so enriching; both practically and spiritually.

I attended a seminar once where the Director of Missouri Prisons spoke and said that they have literacy courses there and many of the inmates learn to read while incarcerated. If they had learned earlier maybe they wouldn't have ended up in prison.

Neither my brother, nor any of his children read, it's so sad, and it makes his kids seem one dimensional, no matter what else they do. Mrs. Hippie and I read to both of our kids every night.

Skeeter told me that in law school, she would smile when she heard her classmates whining about staying up till 2:00 AM to finish the reading that she had finished over a sandwich at lunch. She graduated suma cum laude, second in her class, and was Articles Editor of Law Review (Sorry Skeeter, you know how I love to brag on you). Now she is buying me expensive gifts, so literacy does pay. I read about 100 books per year, and would rather give up television than reading.

By the way, great cartoon last week. Today's was good too, but last week's really resonated with me.

"I find television to be very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go in the other room and read a book." - Groucho Marx

I found reading can be inspiring and motivating. It makes me think about things more deeply and from more angles. Some TV shows are good too like The Big Idea and some news, discovery, and si-fic programs. But I guess many people don't see these as entertaining and they often switch back to watch The Simple Life or some comedy shows. Whatever people watch, as long as they also find something to learn from, it's all good. IMHO, a person reads and watches different things as he/she matures. It is a learning process in life...

I am almost panicky if I don't have a book in my possession at any given time.
