Introduction

When you travel a lot, and don't want to talk to the guy in the next seat, you have two choices; explain to him in a loud whisper that you have invented an impotence cure derived from pig's placenta, or bury yourself in a book. I've tried both; the book works better, but only a little.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time - Mark Haddon

www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/002-7746766-4586430…

A mystery written in the first person from the point of view of an autistic adolescent.

God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything - Christopher HItchins

www.amazon.com/God-Not-Great-Religion-Everything/…

The dangers and false comfort of blind faith.

Common Nonsense - Andy Rooney

www.amazon.com/Common-Nonsense-Andy-Rooney/dp/158…

A collection of Andy's editorials from 60 Minutes.

Blasphemy: How the Religious Right is Hijacking the Declaration of Independence - Alan Dershowitz

Brilliant Harvard professer explains the dangers of fundamentalism.

Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid - Jimmy Carter

Jimmy's blueprint for peace. Good luck with that.

Life of Pi - Yann Martel

"Then the elderly man said, 'I have a story that will make you believe in God.'"

Cross - James Patterson

Any of the Alex Cross books will provide pleasant diversion.

The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century- Thomas Friedman

Freidman explains global economics, and why those manufacturing jobs will never be back.

Letter to a Christian Nation - Sam Harris

Nothing new here. Sort of a Reader's Digest distillation of arguments for Atheism.

Invisible Prey - John Sanford

If you like mysteries, you probably already know Sanford's Lucas Davenport.

Serpentine - Thomas Thompson

www.amazon.com/Serpentine-Thomas-Thompson/dp/1841…

The best true crime novel ever written. I'm reading it for the third time.

The Overlook - MIchael Connelly

www.amazon.com/Overlook-Harry-Bosch-Michael-Conne…

I like all of Connelly's Harry Bosch novels.

Bad Luck and Trouble - Lee Child

Another entertaining series; Stone Barrington is rich, brilliant, has a lot of sex, and solves every mystery in sight.
