Introduction
I am studying to be a teacher and have worked with kids for years. I also worked in the kids section of a book store for a while. These are books I would recommend for any precocious young readers looking to expand their horizons.
1
Ender's Game- (Orson Scott Card)
2
The Golden Compass- (Phillip Pullman)
3
The Secret of Nimh- (Robert C. O'Brian)
4
Island of the Blue Dolphins- (Scott O'Dell)
5
King of the Wind- (Marguerite Henry)
6
A Wrinkle in Time- (Madeleine L'Engle)
7
The Hobbit- (J.R.R. Tolkein)
8
The Blue Sword- (Robin McKinley)
9
The Diamond Age- (Neal Stephenson)
10
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy- (Douglas Adams)
Great list--good choices! :)

Gee, except for Hitchhiker's Guide, I've never heard of any of these books. When I was a young adult, I was reading Catcher in the Rye, Franny and Zooey, On the Road, Peyton Place, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Rosemary's Baby, This Perfect Day, Boys and Girls Together, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Fanny Hill. And look how well I turned out.
